“Ritorno’ l’inverno”.

In questo aprile ricco di contrasti,  abbiamo avuto anche noi qualche colpo di coda dell’inverno che ha gettato nello sconforto gli uccelli appena arrivati dalle loro vacanze invernali al caldo.

Ci siamo infatti ritrovati alle mangiatoie individui che non abbiamo visto per tutto il lungo inverno:  il Pettirosso,  il Fringuello,  il Lucherino,  la Passera scopaiola,  il Merlo;  tutti bramosi di cibo.

Di notte tutta questa bella gente si e’ rifugiata nella nostra lunga siepe,  che essendo molto vecchia e compatta,  offre un riparo sicuro.

Non ultima la straordinaria Peppola,  dai colori sgargianti e cosi’ rara.

Infine i nostri crocus,  gia’ sbocciati,  si sono richiusi indispettiti:

Il tempo cosi’ balordo mi ha fatto venire in mente questi versi di Lucio Dalla (che sono anche il titolo del post),  tratti dalla sua canzone La Settima Luna: 

“Sospesero i giochi e si spensero le luciCominciò l’infernoLa gente corse a casa perché per quella notteRitornò l’inverno”.

“Winter returned”.

This year April brought very variable weather.  In Finland  we have had some tailwinds of winter which threw the birds who had just arrived from their warm winter holidays into despair. 

Actually,  we found individuals at the feeders that we had not seen throughout the long winter:  the Robin,  the Chaffinch,  the Siskin,  the Dunnock,  the Blackbird;  all craving food.

At night all these guys took refuge in our long spruce hedge,  which,  being old and compact,  offers a safe shelter.

In the final shots:  the Brambling,  with its fantastic colours and our crocuses,  which had already opened,  but closed their corollas in anger. 😉

This crazy weather reminded me of some verses by Italian songwriter Lucio Dalla,  taken from his song La Settima Luna:

“The games were suspended,  the lights went out

Hell began

People ran home because for that night

Winter returned.”

  40. I’m curious if the return of winter is a frequent event in your area, or if this year is really a freak occurrence. We are in a somewhat similar climate zone and April here has always been unpredictable, with a snow storm once in several years. But many places are seeing really atypical weather events recently. So I’m curious about your snow. I’m sure it’s hard on birds in either case.
