Le farfalle sono molto amanti del sole.  Lo sapevate?  Proprio nel senso che amano prendere il sole:  sdraiarsi ad ali aperte al sole per riscaldare il loro esile corpicino.  Esattamente come fanno le lucertole.  A parte rare eccezioni,  le farfalle escono in volo solamente se ci sono dai 14 gradi C in su e se non c’è troppo vento.  Inoltre,  volano solo nelle ore centrali della giornata e molto prima che arrivi il crepuscolo si sono gia’ rifugiate da qualche parte per trascorrere la notte.  Altro che galline!

La farfalla nelle mie foto di oggi,  come vedete dalle riprese in sequenza,  dopo qualche breve voletto si e’ letteralmente sdraiata al sole,  aprendo completamente le ali e cercando la posizione migliore.

E’ molto diffusa in Finlandia e sfarfalla nel mese di giugno:  il suo nome scientifico è:  Argynnis aglaja,  in Finnico:  Orvokkihopeatäplä.  In Italiano si chiama:  Aglaja Grande madreperlacea.  La si trova in tutta Europa,  tranne che sulla costa Mediterranea.  Le piacciono le radure,  le zone pedemontane,  ma anche boschi e giardini.

Did you know that butterflies are very fond of basking in the sun?  They love to warm up their thin bodies in the full sunlight,  just like lizards do.  Butterflies are afraid of cold:  they are generally active only if the temperature is at least 14 degrees C and it is not too windy.  Moreover,  they fly only in the full day and before dusk they locate a roosting place to spend the night.

The butterfly I am sharing today is called:  Dark Green Fritillary,  (Argynnis aglaja),  in Finnish:  Orvokkihopeatäplä.  It is widespread all over Europe,  though absent from the Mediterranean coast. In Finland it is very common in the month of June when it comes alive.  You can meet it along flowery banks,  woodlands and even in your home yard.

As you can see in my shots,  taken in sequence,  it stopped on a spruce branch after a short flight,  wings wide open,  to enjoy the sun rays.
