Ho piacevolissimi ricordi di un viaggio in Portogallo che facemmo qualche anno fa.  Ricordo la gente molto cordiale (so che si dice sempre nelle guide,  ma non e’ sempre vero),  nonostante il tenore di vita non appariscente e le belle spiagge,  i luoghi storici,  ma anche tanta natura ed un entroterra montagnoso e invernale.

In questo post siamo nell’Alfama,  il quartiere piu’ vecchio di Lisbona.  Passeggiare nelle viuzze talvolta piuttosto strette,  fra giardinetti,  piccole piazze,  negozi di artigianato,   edifici vecchi ma imponenti,  e’ stato molto piacevole.  Gli scorci colorati dall’azzurro delle ceramiche si integrano con il giallo tufaceo della pietra da costruzione.

L’Alfama si sviluppa in verticale,  poiche’ va dal Castello di São Jorge,  sul cocuzzolo della collina,  al fiume Tago.

Un’ultima curiosita’:  la Chiesa di San Antonio da Padova,  gran evangelizzatore,  che qui nacque,  ma che nella citta’ veneta termino’ la sua opera e la sua esistenza.

In The Alfama.

I have very pleasant memories of a trip to Portugal we took a few years ago.

I remember the very friendly people (I know it is always said in the guidebooks, but it is not always true),  despite the inconspicuous living standard;  its beautiful beaches,  its historical places,  but also a lot of nature and a mountainous and wintry inland.

In this post we are in the  Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon.  Walking in the sometimes rather narrow alleys among gardens,  small squares,  craft shops,  old but imposing buildings,  was very pleasant.  The  blue of the ceramics mingle with the lime yellow of the building stone in a vivacity of colours.

The Alfama develops vertically,  as it goes from the Castle of São Jorge,  on the top of the hill,  to the River Tagus.

A final pearl:  the Church of St. Anthony from Padua,  the greatest preacher of Catholicism,  who was born in Lisbon but ended his work and his earthly life in the north of Italy.
