In italiano lo conosciamo come:  Cavaliere d’Italia  (Himantopus himantopus),  in finlandese si chiama:   Pitkäjalka,  cioe’:  “Gambalunga”.

E’ un piccolo ma elegantissimo trampoliere che a causa dei cambiamenti climatici ha preso a frequentare le risaie del territorio veronese.  E’ un migratore,  sverna in Africa e non arriva in Finlandia.

E’ piuttosto simpatico:  il corpo piccolo e le lunghe smilze gambe  rosse gli conferiscono un’andatura unica.  Nelle risaie trova il suo cibo ideale.

The Imperial Black-winged Stilt.   

This bird is a small wader who frequents the rice fields in the area of Verona,  where I met it.  Its characteristics are a short body and  extremely long and thin red legs,  which make it appear a little uncertain when walking,  but give it a natural elegance as well.  It migrates to Italy in summer,  spends winter in Africa and does not come to Finland.  Lately,  due to the global warming,  the number of individuals in areas of north Italy have increased;  they find good food in rice fields.

In Finnish it is called:  Pitkäjalka,  that is:  Long legs.
