Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Giugno è stato piuttosto caldo in Finlandia e molto secco,  tanto che abbiamo dovuto innaffiare orto e giardino per non compromettere i nostri raccolti e il nostro verde.  Le temperature hanno raggiunto i 27 gradi C e lambito i 30 in varie zone.  Come ho già detto in altri post,  le nostre case sono interamente di legno dentro e fuori e con queste temperature si surriscaldano immediatamente.

In Italia giugno è stato piuttosto piovoso:  a Verona un temporale ogni sera,  mediamente.   Nonostante ciò,  la crisi idrica non è affatto risolta e il fatto che la pioggia scenda vogorosa e abbondante in pochi minuti non significa che sia raccolta dai fiumi,  ma solo che danneggi il territorio e provochi frane e smottamenti.

Queste sono però le giornate più lunghe dell’anno e il loro fascino mi ammalia ogni estate.  Il fatto che ci sia luce anche di notte è meraviglioso e magico.   La notte del solstizio è anche per me,  come per i finlandesi da tempi immemorabili,  un appuntamento incantato,  un po’ come la notte di Natale per i bimbi.  Riflettendoci,  penso che l’anima finlandese sia ancora profondamente pagana,  nel senso dell’ascolto della natura.

Gli animali selvatici con il calore dell’estate se ne stanno rintanati nel folto del bosco,  proprio come in pieno inverno,  con la differenza che ora escono al tramonto in cerca di cibo.  Spesso si portano dietro i loro nuovi nati:  e’ incantevole vedere i piccoli cervi,  caprioli,  tassi…

Notizia apparsa sul HS che ci ha rallegrato non poco:  il turismo è in crescita in Finlandia.  Il titolo qui sopra significa:  gli Europei incontrano la Lapponia.   E’ importante sottolineare che anche il turismo interno sta vivendo un’ottima stagione:  durante i tre anni del virus cinese che ci ha tanto ristretto gli orizzonti,  infatti,  i finlandesi si sono orientati molto alle vacanze in patria,  anche perchè qui non erano in vigore tutte le restrizioni che caratterizzavano altre destinazioni;  adesso si è tornati ad una movimentazione normale,  con un interscambio tra Finlandia e resto d’Europa soddisfacente per entrambi.   I finlandesi sono molto attratti dal turismo sostenibile e cercano per lo più le destinazioni che lo garantiscono;  gli stranieri cercano le temperature meno roventi,  l’aria e l’acqua pulita e tutte le amenità che la Finlandia può offrire dal punto di vista naturalistico.

CURIOSITA’:   A metà maggio durante una nostra trasferta in Italia,  ho scambiato due chiacchiere in aeroporto con un gruppo di turisti trentini che si stavano recando in Lapponia a fotografare gli orsi:  vi si organizzano infatti dei “safari” specializzati durante i quali si staziona in apposite strutture di legno dove si attende il passaggio di questi animali.

A proposito di aeroporti:  l’aeroporto di Helsinki-Vantaa e’ stato eletto miglior scalo Europeo per il 2023.  Non e’ la prima volta,  ma adesso e’ stato recentemente rinnovato in molte parti.  Percio’,  cari amici,  vi invito ancora una volta a venire in Finlandia:  programmate un viaggetto qui,  e’ un paese magnifico! 🙂

In questo periodo si sono celebrati un paio di anniversari importanti in Italia,  ad esempio il 150 anno dalla scomparsa di Alessandro Manzoni,  uno scrittore e letterato grandissimo,  la cui opera e’ inserita nella corrente del Romanticismo italiano.

Un altro anniversario che invece mi tocca da vicino e’ il centenario della prima rappresentazione operistica allestita nell’Arena di Verona,  la mia citta’,  nell’ambito del festival dell’opera lirica che vi si tiene ogni estate.  Questo anniversario mi tocca da vicino perche’ ho frequentato il festival operistico con i miei genitori,  essendo loro (ed io) appassionati di questo genere di musica.  L’Arena di Verona e’ un anfiteatro romano ben conservato ed e’ la piu’ grande ribalta di musica lirica all’aperto del mondo.  Ne ho parlato ad esempio nel mio post:  https://traitaliaefinlandia.com/2019/07/24/compleanno-di-santana/

Una delle notizie cui e’ stato dato maggior risalto sui media italiani e’ stata la scomparsa di Silvio Berlusconi,  imprenditore e poilitico.  A parte la pietas dovuta alla morte di un essere umano (anche uno povero e straccione, pero’!) non mi uniro’ al coro di coloro che hanno elogiato la figura e l’operato di questo personaggio cosi’ divisivo.  Secondo me infatti non ha dato assolutamente niente al Paese,  ha solo avuto;  anzi,  ha sicuramente tolto qualcosa:  ad esempio ha tolto agli italiani qualche grado di buona reputazione a livello internazionale.  Per finire,  diro’ che la posizione della donna non ha avuto avanzamenti per merito suo,  anzi,  lui non ha affatto contribuito a cambiare la mentalita’ medievale che la donna sia un oggetto di svago o al piu’ una serva dell’uomo o una sua proprieta’.  Ovviamente sui giornali stranieri e finlandesi in particolare la notizia non ha avuto alcuna rilevanza.

Come sappiamo tutti,  la guerra continua.  Putin non ha raggiunto nemmeno uno dei suoi “obiettivi”,  ma continua nella sua azione bombardando i civili.  Va detto che le cose sono andate esattamente all’opposto di come aveva previsto con i suoi brillanti strateghi quando ha lanciato l’invasione.   Ora rischia anche di passare alla storia come l’uomo che ha fatto implodere la Federazione.  Ci sarebbero tutti gli estremi per sedere ad un tavolo di pace,  ma purtroppo Putin non vuole la pace con l’Ucraina,  vuole la conquista,  come sta dimostrando in questi giorni:  il messo vaticano si trova a Mosca per incontrarlo e lui vola nel Daghestan…

A Month in my Photos.

June was quite hot in Finland and very dry,  so much so that we had to water the vegetable yard and garden in order not to jeopardize our crops and our greenery.  Temperatures reached 27 degrees C and reached 30 in various areas.  As I have already said in other posts,  our houses are made entirely of wood inside and out and with these temperatures they overheat immediately.

June was rather rainy in Italy:  in Verona we had a thunderstorm every evening,  on average. Despite this,  the water crisis hasn’t been resolved at all and the fact that the rain falls vigorously and abundantly in a few minutes does not mean that it is collected by rivers or by the land,  but only that it damages the area and causes landslides. 

However,  these are the longest days of the year and their charm captivates me every summer.  The fact that there is light even at night is wonderful and magical.  The night of the solstice is also for me,  as for the Finns since time immemorial,  an enchanted appointment,  a bit like Christmas night for children.  Reflecting on it,  I think that the Finnish soul is still deeply pagan,  in the sense of being one with mother Nature.

With the heat of summer,  wild animals stay holed up in the thick of the woods,  just like in the middle of winter,  with the difference that now they go out at sunset in search of food.  They often bring their newborns with them:  it is enchanting to see the small deer,  roe deer,  badgers…

News appeared on the HS and quite cheered us up:  tourism is growing in Finland.  The title in my shot above means:  Europeans meet Lapland.  It’s important to underline that domestic tourism is also going through an excellent season:  during the three years of the Chinese virus that has narrowed our horizons so much,  in fact,  the Finns were very much oriented towards holidays in their homeland,  also because there weren’t here all the restrictions that characterized other destinations;  now we have returned to normal traffic,  where the inter-exchange between Finland and the rest of Europe is satisfying for both.  Finns are very attracted to sustainable tourism and mostly look for destinations that guarantee it;  foreigners are looking for cooler temperatures,  clean air and water and all the amenities that Finland can offer from a naturalistic point of view.

A FUN FACT:   In mid-May during one of our trips to Italy,  I exchanged a few words at the airport with a group of tourists from Italian Trentino region who were on their way to Lapland to photograph the bears:  in fact,  specialized “safari” are organized there,  during which the passage of these animals is awaited in special wooden structures.

Speaking of airports:  Helsinki-Vantaa airport has been elected best European airport for 2023.  It is not the first time,  but now it has been recently renovated in many parts.  Therefore,  dear friends,  I invite you once again to come to Finland:  plan a trip here,  it is a wonderful country! 🙂

A couple of important anniversaries were celebrated in Italy recently,  for example the 150th year after Alessandro Manzoni‘s death,  a great writer and man of letters,  whose work is part of the Italian Romanticism.

Another anniversary that touches me closely is the centenary of the first opera performance staged in the Arena of Verona,  my city,  as part of the opera festival held there every summer.  This anniversary touches me closely because I have attended many times the opera festival with my parents,  as they (and I) are keen of this kind of music.  The Arena di Verona is a well-preserved Roman amphitheater and is the largest open-air opera theatre in the world.  I spoke about it in my post:  https://traitaliaefinlandia.com/2019/07/24/compleanno-di-santana/

One of the news stories that received the greatest attention in the Italian media was the death of Silvio Berlusconi,  entrepreneur and politician.  Apart from the pietas due to the death of a human being (even a poor and beggarly one, though!) I won’t join the chorus of those who praised the figure and work of such a divisive person.  In my opinion he has given absolutely nothing to the country,  he has only had;  on the contrary,  he has certainly taken something away:  for example he has taken away some amount of international good reputation from the Italian people.  Finally,  I think that the position of women has not been promoted during his government:  it has not contributed at all to changing the medieval mentality that women are an object of leisure to a man,  or a servant or a property of his.  Obviously in foreign newspapers and Finnish in particular the news had no relevance.

As we all know,  the war continues.  Putin has not achieved any of his “goals”,  but continues in his action bombing civilians.  It must be said that things turned out exactly the opposite of how he had planned with his brilliant strategists when he launched the invasion.  Now he also risks going down in history as the man who imploded the Federation.  There are plenty of reasons to sit down at a peace table,  but unfortunately Putin doesn’t want peace with Ukraine,  he wants conquest,  as he is just showing in these days:  the Vatican messenger is in Moscow to meet him and he flew to Dagestan…
