Tra Italia e Finlandia

Durante il primo weekend di dicembre,  nella bella citta’ di Turku si e’ svolta la rassegna di installazioni luminose:  “Path of Light”,  cioe’:  “Sentiero della Luce”.  Oggi vi propongo qualche opera,  visto che a noi sono piaciute e sono creazioni di giovani artisti.  Cominciamo da questa qui sopra:  si intitola “Cloud” e si trovava all’interno del piccolo centro commerciale Hansakortteli.  E’ una creazione dell’artista Tuomas Honkanen.

La seconda e’ senz’altro la piu’ significativa:  “Love”,  una scritta in stile cartoon posta davanti al Duomo.  (Il bianco che vedete per terra e’ ovviamente neve).  Creata dall’artista Jouni “Psyke” Väänänen,  l’opera esprime la frustrazione dell’uomo che vede l’odio sopravanzare l’amore nelle situazioni di tutti i giorni.  La dedichiamo al signor Putin?  Il mondo ha bisogno d’amore e di futuro,  non di ridisegnare i confini e tirarsi bombe!

Vicino al Duomo,  i giardini dedicati a Per Brahe,  governatore generale della Finlandia nel XVII secolo e il suo monumento.

Infine,  l’installazione piu’ scenografica:  “The Flower Forest”,  dell’artista James ‘Jig’ Cochrane,  che potete ammirare qui di seguito.  Si tratta di una vera e propria selva di gigli sistemati lungo il corso del fiume Aura,  che attraversa Turku fino al mare.  I gigli erano non solo colorati,  ma cangianti in continuazione,  per un effetto davvero coinvolgente:  tanto piu’ che si riflettevano sul fiume gia’ ghiacciato.  Le barche che vedete sono tutti bar e ristoranti,  ma molti in inverno sono chiusi,  ovviamente.

Ciliegina sulla torta:  una barca dal design davvero vecchio stile,  perfettamente illuminata.

CURIOSITA’:   Gli organizzatori si sono chiesti che senso abbia organizzare un evento simile in tempi di crisi energetica e si sono risposti che:  1- La vita e’ adesso e adesso e’ il momento di dare spunti di aggregazione alla gente,  dopo tre anni di covid;  2- La manifestazione consuma relativamente poca energia:  si stimano 2 MWh,  percio’ se ogni partecipante tiene spenta per 1 ora una lampadina da 10 watt,  cio’ e’ sufficiente per compensare il consumo del festival.  Ulteriori info sul sito della citta:  Turku.fi.

Path of Light  (part 1).

During the first weekend of December,  a festival of light installations took place in the beautiful city of Turku:  “Path of Light”. Today I will offer you some works,  since we liked them and they are creations of young artists. 

Let’s start with the first one:  it’s called “Cloud” and it was located inside the small Hansakortteli shopping center.  It is a creation of artist Tuomas Honkanen.

The second is undoubtedly the most significant:  “Love”,  giant cartoon-style letters placed in front of the Cathedral. (The white you see on the ground is obviously snow).  Created by artist Jouni “Psyke” Väänänen,  the work expresses the frustration of the man who sees hate overcoming love in everyday situations.  Shall we dedicate it to Mr. Putin?  The world needs love and a future,  not redrawing borders and throwing bombs!

Near the Cathedral,  the gardens dedicated to Per Brahe,  governor general of Finland in the 17th century and his monument.

Finally,  the most spectacular installation:  “The Flower Forest”,  by artist James ‘Jig’ Cochrane.  It is a real forest of lilies arranged along the riverfront of the Aura river,  from Turku centre to the sea.  The lilies were not only coloured,  but constantly changing,  for a truly captivating effect:  all the more so as they were reflected on the already frozen river.  The boats you see are all bars and restaurants,  but many are obviously closed in winter.

The icing on the cake:  a boat with a really old-fashioned design,  perfectly lit.

A FUN FACT:   The organizers wondered what sense there is in organizing such an event in times of energy crisis and they answered that:  1- Life is now and now is the time to give people ideas for aggregation,  after three years‘ covid;  2- The event consumes relatively little energy:  an estimated 2 MWh;  therefore if each participant turns off a 10-watt light bulb for 1 hour,  this is sufficient to compensate for the consumption of the festival.  Further info on the city website:  Turku.fi.
