La chiesetta di Parainen.

Nella cittadina di Parainen, situata lungo un braccio di mare dell’arcipelago a sud di Turku, troviamo una graziosa chiesetta in pietra, il cui primo abbozzo risale al Medioevo. Iniziata come sacrestia lignea nel XIII secolo, e’ stata poi ampliata e completata in pietra. La chiesa si trova sulla sommita’ di una collinetta proprio nel centro citta’ ed e’ dedicata a San Simone. Entriamo a godere delle raffinatezze artistiche di questa piccola chiesa.

A detta degli architetti del gruppo LPR, che hanno curato il restauro piu’ recente, questa chiesa e’ tra le piu’ belle in Finlandia e i materiali impiegati per la sua costruzione sono di ottima qualita’. Il perimetro della chiesa e’ di 35,7 metri per 19,3; il soffitto e’ retto da possenti colonne ottagonali in mattoni, i quali si trovano anche nelle arcate e in altri punti cosi’ da creare una gradevole policromia.

Al termine del nostro giro, vi propongo l’osservazione ravvicinata di affreschi e opere pittoriche della chiesa, Gli affreschi sono ricchi di dettagli ed eseguiti con cura – opere della scuola di Petrus Henriksson – risalgono alla fine del 1400. Una delle figure ritratte e’ Santa Brigida di Svezia. L’organo e’ del 1750.

La pala d’altare che vedete in questa ultima foto e’ opera del maestro Mathias Reiman di Turku, fra i piu’ famosi del tempo. Questa chiesa Luterana comprende anche una cappella dedicata a Mikael Agricola, il religioso e studioso che implemento’ la lingua finlandese nel XVI secolo. Infine: un pensiero alla gente di mare.

The Stone Church in Parainen.

In the town of Parainen, located on an island in the archipelago south of Turku, we find a pretty stone church, the first sketch of which dates back to the Middle Ages. It was started as a wooden sacristy in the 13th century, it was then enlarged and completed in stone. The church is located on the top of a hill right in the city center and is dedicated to St. Simon. We will visit it and enjoy the artistic refinements of this small church. (In my slideshow)

According to the architects of the LPR group, who carried out the most recent restoration, this church is among the most beautiful in Finland and the materials used for its construction are of excellent quality. The perimeter of the church is 35.7 meters by 19.3; the ceiling is supported by mighty octagonal brick columns, which are also found in the arches and in other details so as to create a pleasant colourful whole.

t the end of our tour, I propose a close observation of the frescoes and paintings of the church. The frescoes are rich in details and carefully executed – works by the school of Petrus Henriksson, they date back to the end of the 1400s. One of the portrayed figures is St. Bridget of Sweden. The organ dates back to 1750.

The altarpiece you see in this last photo is the work of master Mathias Reiman of Turku, one of the most famous of the time. This Lutheran church also includes a chapel dedicated to Mikael Agricola, the clergyman and scholar who implemented the Finnish language in the 16th century.
