Un addobbo da giardino piuttosto popolare in Finlandia sono i cosiddetti “Maitolaiturit”,  cioe’ i predellini dove una volta i contadini lasciavano i bidoni del latte appena munto in attesa che i lattai passassero a svuotarli.   Questo sistema non esiste piu’ naturalmente,  ma la tradizione e’ sopravvissuta e non solo le fattorie o gli allevamenti di mucche espongono questi manufatti nei loro giardini.   Si tratta di piccole costruzioni in legno,  decorate con fiori o altri accessori in estate e che spesso ospitano anche la cassetta della posta.  Ve ne propongo alcuni visti in giro…

Moltissimi manufatti di questo tipo sono realizzati in proprio,  non comprati,  perche’ il bricolage e’ molto in voga da queste parti.  Il sogno di molti finlandesi e’ infatti un bel laboratorio-garage-falegnameria ben fornito.  Non solo gli uomini,  ma anche molte signore hanno familiarita’ con martelli,  seghe,  trapani,  chiavi inglesi…e comunque senz’altro con tosaerba e arnesi da giardinaggio.

Non mancano in tv le trasmissioni a tema restauro,  ristrutturazione case,  arredamento,  allestimento giardini.

Decorative Milk.

A rather popular garden decoration in Finland are the so-called “Maitolaiturit”,  that is a kind of stage or set of steps where once farmers left the cans of freshly milked milk waiting for the milkmen to come and empty them.  This system no longer exists,  but the tradition has survived and not only farmhouses display these artifacts in the gardens.  It is mostly about small wooden buildings,  decorated with flowers or other accessories in the summer and which often also house the mailbox.  I will share with you some seen around …

Many artifacts of this type are homemade not bought,  because do-it-yourself is very popular here.  The dream of many Finns is in fact a beautiful well-stocked workshop-garage-carpentry shop.  Not only men,  but also many ladies are familiar with hammers,  saws,  drills,  wrenches … and certainly with lawn mowers and garden tools. 

Very popular are also the TV programs about restoration,  renovation of houses,  furniture,  gardening.

  13. Dalle mie parti ci sono alcune fattorie che utilizzano il latte appena munto in 2 modi:
    – vendita diretta tramite apposito erogatore di “latte crudo”: 1 litro – 1 euro (assaggiato: non mi piace per nulla)
    – raccolta da parte di aziende casearie locali per la preparazione di formaggi freschi

    I remember when the milkman would deliver milk and eggs to our home. I see similar building here for the children that have to wait outside for the school bus to pick them up. They have a dry and warmer place to wait for the bus.

  40. This really takes me back. I used to spend childhood summers at country side with my grandparents. My grandpa and me used to move the milk to maitolaituri. Thank you for bringing it up and remind me of that!

  50. interesting vestige of past times. with a nostalgy that custom that Riita mentiones brings: “young of the village / countryside met each other at maitolaituri, it was a popular gathering place for them.”
