A group-splashdown.
On a lovely and sunny autumn Sunday, when we decided to go birdwatching, we had the opportunity to watch a large flock of wild geese fly around in a kind of circle above our heads. We were standing along the shore of the small gulf called Halikon Lahti, a well-known area to birdwatchers; the flock of geese was incredibly numerous and it became larger and larger every moment, as the birds turned and revolted in the sky crying aloud. Migratory birds gather in flocks in the autumn, in order to fly together safely: these birds were exactly doing that, calling each other to keep contact.
Of course I did not resist and I shot a brief video too: you can see the impressive number of individuals in the group: from a distance they resemble a swarm of flies!
After turning and returning endless times they finally splashed down r to the water. From this “earthly” point of view of course they lost a bit of their fascination…but it was so exciting to see them anyway and hear their cries!

Hello,
I love seeing these large flocks of geese, they can sound so loud too. Great collection of photos and video.
Take care, enjoy your weekend!

…what a sight! They turn the sky black with their numbers!

I see that behavior more with starlings than geese – a lot of our geese here have actually quit migrating and stay all year, because of ample food supplies (farmers’ fields). Enjoyed your pictures.

Wow, mai visto tante oche tutte assieme 😉

Spectacular!
For me, the flocks of wild geese are a relatively new and exotic thing, and even if we see here only small ones, they impress me every time.
Thank you for your comment today. I hope your Laburnum will bloom soon. I’m trying to grow them from seeds and they are 10 cm high now. 🙂
Stay safe and well!

Hitchcock-ish, as the movie The Birds. Never seen so many birds at once in Nature.

We’ve been seeing the geese flying South a lot lately. I love hearing their calls, unfortunately it’s a sure sign of winter on its way!!

Sure! Winter is closer and closer. But migratory birds are always nice to watch. 🙂
