Tra Italia e Finlandia

Buona domenica,  cari lettori!

Innanzitutto spero che Santa Lucia vi abbia portato tanti doni! 😉

Poi per la nostra domenica musicale,  vi propongo “La” canzone di Santa Lucia per eccellenza.  Si tratta di un brano tradizionale napoletano datato fine ‘800.  Il testo in realta’ racconta le bellezze del borgo marinaro di Santa Lucia,  nel golfo di Napoli,  ma la canzone ha avuto un tale successo internazionale ed e’ stata tradotta in talmente tante lingue e versioni,  che ha cambiato leggermente significato.  Qui al nord e’ divenuta addirittura un canto natalizio,  che parla di luce,  calore e bellezza ispirate dalle stelle scintillanti nel cielo invernale,  dalle candele accese,  dall’arrivo della santa e dalle bianche foreste pervase dallo spirito del Natale.

Ho scelto infatti la versione finlandese del brano,  che e’ senz’altro la meno conosciuta ai piu’,  interpretata dal famoso cantante Tapani Kansa.  In finnico il brano si intitola:  “Pyhä Lucia”.  (Testo in calce).

Questo brano non interrompe la serie di brani dedicati al tema:  “Viaggio”,  poiche’ nella versione italiana parla del ritorno a casa di un pescatore.

First of all,  I hope that Santa Lucia has brought you many gifts! 😉

Then for our musical Sunday,  I will propose “The” song of Saint Lucy par excellence.  It is a traditional Neapolitan song dating back to the end of the 19th century.  The lyrics actually tell the beauty of the seafront village of Santa Lucia,  in the Gulf of Naples,  but the song has had such international success and has been translated into so many languages ​​and versions,  that it has slightly changed meaning.  Here in the north it has even become a Christmas carol,  which speaks of light,  warmth and beauty inspired by the stars sparkling in the winter sky,  by the lit candles,  by the arrival of the saint and by the white forests pervaded by the Christmas spirit.

I have actually chosen the Finnish version of the song,  which is certainly the least known to most of you,  performed by the famous singer Tapani Kansa.  In Finnish the song is called: “Pyhä Lucia”.   (Lyrics below).

This song does not interrupt the series of songs dedicated to the theme:  “Travel”, since in the Italian version it talks about a fisherman’s return home.
