Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Agosto e’ stato proprio bello in Finlandia,  con giorni piacevolmente soleggiati e tutto sommato poche piogge,  cosicche’ i raccolti sono stati fatti senza problemi.  Si,  perche’ agosto qui e’ il mese dei raccolti:  grano,  avena,  orzo,  segale,  ravizzone,  sono tutti da falciare adesso,  essendo stati seminati in maggio.

Soprattutto in Finlandia non abbiamo avuto fenomeni meteo estremi come e’ invece successo in Italia,  dove ci sono state piogge abbondanti,  acquazzoni,  temporali e vento,  che ha anche provocato trombe marine.

Le giornate si sono accorciate notevolmente,  rispetto a luglio:  adesso abbiamo qualche ora di buio,  anche se il levare del sole e’ ancora troppo presto per i miei gusti:  alle 05.50,  preceduto comunque da una lunga alba,  come avviene sempre nel nord del mondo.

Agosto segna l’inizio delle scuole,  in Finlandia e a Somero sono iniziate il giorno 7.  Come spesso succede,  a ridosso dell’inizio scuole il meteo si beffa degli studenti e manda una piccola ondata di caldo,  per cui si accende sempre la discussione se sia il caso di posticipare.  Ma siccome non si tratta mai di caldo eccessivo ed e’ soprattutto pomeridiano,  le scuole vanno avanti come prestabilito.  Le prossime vacanze comunque saranno ad ottobre.

Agosto segna anche l’inizio della stagione dei funghi.  Veramente dipende un po’ dai funghi,  oltre che dalle condizioni meteo (caldo e piogge);  i Finferli si trovano gia’ a fine luglio e vanno avanti fino ad ottobre,  mentre i Porcini hanno un periodo brevissimo di vegetazione,  di 2/3 settimane in genere.

Ad agosto abbiamo pero’ raccolto anche molti altri frutti:  ribes nero,  rosso e bianco,  uva spina bianca e rossa,  mirtilli di bosco e coltivati.  Adesso a fine mese  maturano le susine gialle e blu.

La notizia del mese e’ che l’economia finlandese si sta riprendendo e sta calando l’inflazione,  dopo tutta l’incertezza di questi ultimi anni,  ma il governo nella speranza di non aumentare il debito pubblico e di poter pagare gli interessi stessi sul debito,  dal 1 settembre aumentera’ l’IVA dall’attuale 24% al 25,5%.  Cio’ fara’ inevitabilmente aumentare i prezzi di taluni prodotti.  Tuttavia il governo ha previsto una lista di merci da tutelare,  la cui IVA rimane al 14% e sono ad esempio:  addorbenti e pannolini,  libri,  farmaceutici,  trasporto pubblico,  ingressi ad eventi culturali e sportivi e cinema.

Ho appreso con piacere che il mio vicinato sta diventando sempre piu’ internazionale:  oltre alla sottoscritta,  si sono trasferiti qui dalla Germania la figlia di un mio vicino finlandese col marito tedesco. 🙂

Riguardo alle notizie dalla guerra in Ucraina che qui e’ molto sentita,  non e’ una cosa lontana come e’ invece percepita in Italia,  voglio ribloggare un post della blog-pal Sara,  tratto da un articolo del Savon Sanomat,  il giornale locale della regione finlandese del Savo.   Si tratta di questo:  nel 2016 la Finlandia aveva donato all’Ucraina una scuola che fu collocata nella zona di Kherson.  La scuola era fatta di moduli prefabbricati ed era completamente green:  luce,  riscaldamento,  acqua calda e aria condizionata erano prodotte esclusivamente con pannelli solari.  Ora quella scuola e’ stata bombardata dai russi,  adducendo la scusa che nel sotterraneo vi era un covo di nazisti ucraini.  Intervistato dal Savo Sanomat,  il portavoce della ditta costruttrice Elemenco Oy,  ha chiarito che la scuola non aveva alcun sotterraneo.  Come la gran parte degli edifici prefabbricati e anche le normali case in legno in Finlandia infatti,  non ci sono fondamenta,  cantine o sotterranei:  la costruzione poggia su uno zoccolo di cemento.

A Month in my Photos.

August was really nice in Finland,  with pleasantly sunny days and little rain,  so the harvests were done without any problems.  Yes,  because August is the month of harvests here:  wheat,  oats,  barley,  rye,  rapeseed are all to be collected now,  having been sown in May.

Most important,  in Finland we have not had extreme weather phenomena like in Italy,  where there came heavy rainfalls,  showers,  thunderstorms and wind,  which also caused waterspouts. 

The daylight has become considerably shorter,  compared to July:  now we have a few hours of darkness,  even if sunrise is still too early for my taste:  at 05.50 a.m.,  preceded by a long dawn,  as always happens in the north of the world.

August marks the beginning of school in Finland and in Somero it started on the 7th.  As often happens, just before the beginning of school the weather mocks the students and sends a small heat wave,  so the discussion always arises as to whether it is right time to postpone.  But since it is never excessively hot and it is mostly hot in the afternoon,  schools continue as planned.  The next holidays will be in October anyway.

August also marks the beginning of the mushroom season.  It really depends a bit on the mushrooms,  as well as on the weather conditions (heat and rain);  Chanterelles are already available at the end of July and will continue until October,  while Porcini mushrooms have a very short growing season,  usually 2/3 weeks. 

In August,  however,  we also picked many other fruits:  black,  red and white currants,  white and red gooseberries,  wild and cultivated blueberries.  Now,  at the end of the month,  yellow and blue plums ripen.

The news of the month is that the Finnish economy is recovering and inflation is dropping,  after all the uncertainty of these recent years,  but the government,  hoping not to increase the public debt and to be able to pay the interest on the debt,  from September 1st  will increase the VAT from the current 24% to 25.5%.  This will inevitably increase the prices of certain products.  However,  the government has provided a list of goods to be protected,  whose VAT remains at 14% and they are for example:  pads, tampons and diapers,  books,  pharmaceuticals,  public transport,  tickets to cultural and sporting events and cinema.

I was happy to learn that my neighborhood is becoming more and more international:  in addition to myself,  the daughter of my Finnish neighbor and her German husband moved here from Germany. 🙂

Regarding the news from the war in Ukraine which is very much felt here,  it is not something far away as it is perceived in Italy,  I just want to reblog a post by blog-pal Sara,  taken from an article in Savon Sanomat,  the local newspaper of the Finnish region of Savo.  This is the story:  in 2016 Finland donated a school to Ukraine,  it was placed in the Kherson area.  The school was made of prefab elements and was completely green:  light,  heating,  hot water and air conditioning were produced exclusively with solar panels.  Now that school has been bombed by the Russians,  claiming that there was a hideout of Ukrainian Nazis in the basement.  Interviewed by Savo Sanomat,  the spokesperson for the construction company Elemenco Oy,   clarified that the school did not have any basement.  As well as most prefabricated buildings and even normal wooden houses in Finland,  there are no foundations,  cellars or basements:  the construction rests on a concrete basement.
