Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Luglio e’ stato bello e caldo in Finlandia,  con giornate di sole splendente intervallate da piogge leggere e con le temperature che si sono mantenute sempre tra i 20 e i 23 gradi,  con qualche punta verso i 27.  Fortunatamente non abbiamo avuto fenomeni estremi:  temporali e piogge forti,  che comunque sono sempre piu’ probabili anche da queste parti,  vista la crisi climatica.

Il dato che ha invece sconvolto le statistiche e’ stato il lungo periodo super-caldo che hanno avuto in Lapponia:  nell’estremo nord Finlandia.  Un’ampia area di alta pressione ha stazionato la’ per lungo tempo e ha inanellato una serie di giorni a 30gradi C.  Davvero eccezionale.

L’Italia invece e’ stata per parecchi giorni nella morsa del caldo rovente,  con punte di 36 gradi nel nord,  ma di 40 e oltre al sud.  Il calore eccessivo ha prodotto parecchi temporali con venti forti,  che hanno creato grandi disagi alla popolazione.

I mesi di giugno e luglio sono il cuore dell’estate finlandese,  nei quali le attivita’ ricreative sono piu’ intense.  A Somero si sono svolti appuntamenti musicali,  sagre,  mostre d’arte,  mercatini serali,  ritrovi,  gare sportive,  biciclettate di gruppo,  camminate…  Questo per dire che l’estate e’ proprio piacevole,  da queste parti e se qualcuno di voi lettori sta programmando un viaggio nel nord Europa,  io consiglio vivamente la prima meta’ di Luglio.  In aggiunta,  le giornate sono lunghissime e non si teme che arrivi il buio!

La natura adesso ha iniziato a dare i suoi frutti,  nel vero senso della parola:  sono maturi infatti i lamponi e i mirtilli nei boschi,  mentre negli orti abbiamo mangiato le fragole e tutte le verdure che avevamo seminato.

Gli animali sono silenziosi e forse un po’ stanchi.  Devono infatti alimentare i propri piccoli e tenerli nascosti ai predatori.  Gli uccelli che in primavera cantavano mettendosi in mostra,  ora volano rapidi e silenziosi in cerca di cibo.  Solo i merli sono rimasti gli ultimi ad esibirsi nei loro concerti serali e ci fanno molto piacere,  perche’ cantano veramente bene.

La crisi climatica si fa sentire,  come si diceva,  tanto che nei record internazionali il 22 luglio u.s.  e’ stato il giorno piu’ caldo di sempre a livello mondiale,  da quando esistono le rilevazioni delle temperature.  Il mar Mediterraneo altresi’ e’ piu’ caldo adesso di 5 gradi in piu’ che in passato,  per questo motivo e’ popolato di meduse e granchi prima relegati in altri mari.

Una riflessione sul controverso show a latere della cerimonia d’apertura delle Olipiadi a Parigi.  Alcuni politici e opinionisti italiani si sono scagliati con veemenza contro lo show,  giudicato lesivo della religione cristiana.  Personalmente avrei voluto sentire la medesima indignazione nei confronti degli evasori fiscali,  dei corrotti,  degli amministratori che sprecano denaro pubblico o che commettono peculato!  Oppure solo i reati legati alla sfera sessuale sono reati?  Perche’ siamo pronti a puntare l’indice contro la comunita’ LGBTQ+ mentre i corrotti,  gli evasori,  gli inquinatori sono innocenti fino al terzo grado di giudizio?

In Finlandia non c’e’ stata che poca polemica sullo show,  anzi,  qualcuno ha detto che e’ ora di dare spazio anche alle “minoranze sessuali”.  Il fatto eclatante e’ che questa e’ la prima volta che si propone questo tipo di show durante una Olimpiade.

Tra le notizie del mese vi racconto che l’aeroporto di Helsinki e’ stato nominato miglior aeroporto del nord Europa per i suoi servizi ai passeggeri.  Non e’ la prima volta:  anche negli anni recenti ha avuto questo premio,  assegnato dall’organizzazione Skytrax.  Per maggiori info: https://www.finavia.fi/en/newsroom/2024/helsinki-airport-wins-again-best-airport-northern-europe

Un altro avvenimento curioso e piacevole e’ stata la nascita allo zoo di Helsinki di una cucciolata di Gatti delle Steppe,  o Gatti delle Nevi,  dei piccoli felini asiatici molto pelosi.  Eccoli:  https://www.korkeasaari.fi/korkeasaaren-manulinaaras-hoitaa-ensimmaista-pentuaan/

Altre notizie spicciole:   Dopo l’Ucraina,  il Paese europeo con il piu’ basso reddito pro capite e’ la Moldova.

Nel 2023 sono stati censiti in Finlandia circa 120 birrifici artigianali.

E’ stato calcolato che il numero di abitanti del pianeta Terra diecimila anni fa fosse di 5 milioni.  Nell’Anno Zero si calcola che ve ne fossero 300 milioni.  Nella meta’ del 1600 si calcola che esistessero 500 milioni di abitanti.

Vi ho detto molte volte che il sogno dei finlandesi che abitano in citta’ e’ avere una seconda casa in campagna o in riva ad un lago per trascorrere in tranquillita’ i fine settimana;  ebbene negli anni ’80,  che furono gli anni d’oro di questa tendenza,  furono costruite circa 116.000 seconde case.

L’eruzione del vulcano Pinatubo nel 1991 ha abbassato la temperatura media mondiale di mezzo grado.  L’eruzione e’ stata la seconda piu’ consistente del XX secolo e ha portato morte e distruzione dal 2 aprile al 15giugno.

Il territorio della Finlandia e’ soggetto ad un innalzamento annuale a causa dello scioglimento dei ghiacci e all’evaporazione delle acque residue ancora dell’ultima glaciazione.  Nella zona nord del Paese,  in particolare nella parte nord del Golfo di Botnia,  l’innalzamento annuale e’ di 9 millimetri.

In un bel giorno di questo luglio,  e’ nato un bimbo su un volo Finnair in servizio da Helsinki a Parigi.  Il giornale ha detto che a bordo non vi era alcun medico,  purtroppo,  ma solo un vigile del fuoco che aveva dimestichezza con le procedure del caso e tutto e’ andato bene.

E’ andato tutto bene anche nel famigerato giorno del IT outage il 19 luglio scorso,  allorche’ i computer di molte parti del mondo hanno subito uno stop nel funzionamento causando disagi notevoli.  In Finlandia non abbiamo avuto quasi nulla.  Non so dirvi perche’ ovviamente.  Probabilmente la Finlandia non usa quel tale programma…

A Month in my Photos.

July was beautiful and warm in Finland,  with days of bright sunshine interspersed with light rain and with temperatures that always remained between 20 and 23 degrees Centigrades,  with some peaks around 27.  Fortunately we didn’t have any extreme phenomena:  thunderstorms and heavy rains,  which are increasingly likely here too,  given the climate crisis.

The data that has actually upset the statistics was the long super-hot period that they have had in Lapland:  in the far north of Finland.  A high-pressure area has been stationing there for a long time and has caused a series of days at 30 degrees C.  Truly exceptional.

Italy,  on the other hand,  was in the grip of scorching heat for several days,  with peaks of 36 degrees in the north,  but 40 and more in the south.  The excessive heat produced several thunderstorms with strong winds,  which caused great inconvenience to the population.

The months of June and July are the heart of the Finnish summer,  when recreational activities are more intense.  Many have taken place in Somero:  musical events,  festivals,  art exhibitions,  evening markets,  get-togethers,  sports competitions,  group bicycle rides,  group walks…  This is to tell you that summer is really pleasant here and if any of you readers are planning a trip to northern Europe,  I highly recommend the first half of July.  In addition,   daytime is really long and there is no fear of darkness coming!

Nature has now started to bear fruit,  in the true sense of the word:  the raspberries and blueberries in the woodlands are ripe,  while in the gardens we ate the strawberries and all the vegetables we had sown. 

Animals are silent and perhaps a little tired.  As a matter of fact,  they must feed their young ones and keep them hidden from predators.  The birds that sang in spring to show off,  now fly quickly and silently in search of food.  Only the Blackbirds are now the last ones left to perform in their evening concerts and they make us very happy,  because they sing really well.

The climate crisis is making itself felt,  as I said,  so much so that in international records last July 22nd was the hottest day ever worldwide,  since temperature measurements have been in existence.  The Mediterranean Sea is also now 5 degrees warmer than in the past,  for this reason it is populated by jellyfish and crabs previously living in other seas only.

A reflection on the controversial side show of the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris. Some Italian politicians and opinion leaders have vehemently lashed out against the show,  deemed harmful to the Christian religion,  but personally I would have liked to hear the same indignation towards tax evaders,  corrupt politicians,  administrators who waste public money!  Or are only crimes related to the sexual sphere,  crimes?  Why are we ready to point an accusing finger at the LGBTQ+ community while the corrupt and tax evaders are considered innocent until the third degree of judgment? 

In Finland there has been little controversy over the show,  indeed,  some have said that it is time to give space to “sexual minorities” as well.  The striking fact is that this is the first time that this type of show has been proposed during an Olympic.

More small news:  After Ukraine,  the European country with the lowest per capita income is Moldova.

In 2023 around 120 craft breweries were registered in Finland. 

It has been calculated that the number of inhabitants of planet Earth ten thousand years ago was 5 million.  In Year Zero it is estimated that there were 300 million.  In the mid-1600s it is estimated that there were 500 million inhabitants.

I have told you many times that the dream of Finns who live in the city is to have a second home in the countryside or on the shore of a lake to spend the weekends in peace;  it is a fact that in the 80s,  which were the golden years of this trend,  around 116,000 second homes were built.

The eruption of the Pinatubo volcano in 1991 lowered the average global temperature by half a degree. The eruption was the second largest of the 20th century and brought death and destruction from April 2nd to June 15th.

The territory of Finland is subject to an annual rise due to the melting of the ice and the evaporation of residual waters still from the last glaciation. In the northern part of the country, particularly in the northern part of the Gulf of Bothnia, the annual rise is 9 millimetres.

On a beautiful day this July,  a baby was born on a Finnair flight en route from Helsinki to Paris. The newspaper said that there was no doctor on board,  unfortunately,  but only a firefighter who was familiar with the procedures and everything went well.

Everything went well even on the IT outage day on July 19th,  when computers in many parts of the world stopped working,  causing considerable inconvenience.  In Finland we had almost nothing.  I can’t tell you why.  Finland probably doesn’t use that certain programme…
