Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Novembre è stato molto bello in Italia,  nonostante le piogge di inizio mese,  quando anche a Verona abbiamo rischiato di avere qualche straripamento del fiume Adige.  Immediatamente dopo questi giorni problematici,  però,  il tempo si è rimesso al bello stabile e ci ha regalato continuamente giornate soleggiate e temperature leggermente al di sopra delle medie del periodo,  permettendoci passeggiate,  pedalate…insomma ore ed ore all’aria aperta. Anche adesso,  a fine mese,  chi ama stare fuori può avvantaggiarsi di temperature pomeridiane attorno ai 10 gradi centigradi.

Contrariamente agli scorsi anni,  la nebbia è stata la grande assente,  questo novembre.  La nebbia che è sempre stata un fenomeno frequentissimo nella Valle Padana,  sembra essersi ridotta a poche mattinate grigie,  da contare sulle dita delle mani,  in questi ultimi anni,  quando invece qualche decennio fa ricordo anche settimane intere di nebbia insistente e fittissima.

In Finlandia,  al contrario,  Novembre è stato più freddo del solito e ci ha portato le prime nevicate anche abbastanza consistenti.  Al momento la temperatura pomeridiana si aggira intorno ai -10C.

Ovviamente le ore di luce sono al minimo:  sia in Italia che in Finlandia le giornate sono cortissime.  In questo la neve aiuta a far splendere il paesaggio anche nel buio delle lunghe notti.

L’inverno è il momento in cui in Finlandia il consumo di elettricità per riscaldamento è al massimo.  Come ho già detto,  qui non ci serviamo del gas ma abbiamo tutto elettrico in casa:  dal riscaldamento,  ai fornelli,  alla sauna.  Ciò che abbiamo risparmiato in estate in termini di illuminazione,  inoltre,  lo spendiamo adesso,  naturalmente.  Va da se’ che la produzione di energia elettrica è importantissima.  La Finlandia sfrutta da sempre qualsiasi fonte:  dalle proprie centrali nucleari,  all’idroelettrico,  al teleriscaldamento dove a bruciare sono gli scarti del taglio delle foreste,  all’eolico.  Perfino a Somero,  il paesino dove abitiamo,  c’è un piccolo parco eolico:  sono state erette quattro pale durante l’estate sopra una certa collinetta particolarmente esposta al vento.

Il costo dell’elettricità per chi ha il mercato libero,  può essere monitorato tramite una app e si può scegliere quando modulare i propri consumi.  Fatto salvo il costo della rete di trasmissione dell’energia,  talvolta l’energia stessa è molto conveniente:  ad esempio nei giorni particolarmente ventosi si parla di 1-3 cent per kwh.

La notizia del mese,  comunque,  in Finlandia,  è stata la chiusura obbligata di tutti i varchi di frontiera lungo il confine russo.  La Russia infatti ha ripreso con una certa insistenza a mandare i propri migranti e richiedenti asilo nella UE attraverso il confine finlandese,  con il chiaro scopo di destabilizzare.  La Russia questo lo ha fatto da sempre:  anche in tempo di pace,  non solo adesso con la guerra in Ucraina in corso.  Dalla Russia sono arrivati in Finlandia in particolare cittadini siriani,  che Mosca portava fino al confine in pullman organizzati apposta.  Ultimamente la Finlandia ha deciso di chiudere i varchi perchè la situazione internazionale è totalmente cambiata e dal confine potrebbero arrivare terroristi e/o membri della Wagner in incognito.

Concludo questo breve post con l’augurio che il mondo recuperi un po’ di saggezza e che gli umani la smettano di scannarsi fra loro e di distruggere l’ambiente e con un avvertimento:  per tutto il mese di dicembre aspettatevi da me solo post natalizi!

A Month in my Photos.

November was very beautiful in Italy,  despite the copious rains at the beginning of the month,  when even in Verona we risked having some overflows of the Adige river.  Immediately after these problematic days,  however,  the weather became stable again and continuously gave us sunny days and temperatures slightly above the average for the period,  allowing us to walk,  cycle… in short,  hours and hours in the open air.  Even now,  at the end of the month,  those who love being outside can take advantage of afternoon temperatures around 10 degrees centigrade.

On the contrary to previous years,  fog was the most notable absentee this November.  Fog,  which has always been a very frequent phenomenon in the Po Valley,  seems to have been reduced to a few gray mornings,  to be counted on one hand,  in recent years,  whereas a few decades ago I also remember entire weeks of insistent and very thick fog.

In Finland November was colder than usual and brought us the first rather copious snowfalls.   At the moment the afternoon temperature is around -10C.

The daylight hours are at a minimum now:  both in Italy and in Finland the days are very short.  In this the snow helps to make the landscape brighter even in the darkness of the long nights.

Winter is the time when electricity consumption for heating is at its highest in Finland.  As I already said,  we don’t use gas here but we have everything electric in the home:  from the heating,  to the stove,  to the sauna.  Moreover,  we are spending now what we saved in the summer in terms of lighting.  It goes without saying that the production of electricity is very important.  Finland has always exploited every source:  from its own nuclear power plants,  to hydroelectric power,  to district heating where waste from forest cutting is burned,  to wind energy.  Even Somero,  the village where we live,  has a  small wind farm:  four blades were erected during the summer on a certain hill particularly exposed to the wind.

The cost of electricity for those who have a free market contract can be monitored via app and you can choose when to modulate your consumption.  Apart from the cost of the energy transmission network,  sometimes the energy itself is very convenient:  for example on particularly windy days we spend about 1-3 Euro cents per kwh.

The news of the month,  in Finland however,  was the forced closure of all border crossings along the Russian border.  In fact,  Russia has resumed sending its own migrants and asylum seekers to the EU across the Finnish border with some insistence,  with the clear aim of destabilizing.  Russia has always done this:  even in peacetime,  not only now with the ongoing war in Ukraine.  From Russia,  Syrian citizens in particular have arrived in Finland,  whom Moscow took to the border in specially organized buses.  Lately,  Finland has decided to close the gates because the international situation has totally changed and terrorists and/or Wagner members could arrive incognito through the border.

I will conclude this short post hoping that the world recovers some wisdom and that humans stop slaughtering each other and destroying the environment and with a warning:  for the entire month of December expect only Christmas posts from me !
