La definizione di resina è:  qualsiasi sostanza prodotta da una pianta di tipo liposolubile.  In realtà la resina è solubile non in acqua ma in alcool o etere,  tende ad essiccarsi a contatto con l’aria e possiede determinate proprietà plastiche e isolanti.

La resina è prodotta dalla pianta a seguito di uno stress o di un intervento:  una ferita o un attacco di patogeni e il suo scopo è quello di proteggere la pianta da questo tipo di eventi e di chiudere le eventuali ferite.

Nelle mie foto:  sul tronco del pino era proprio appariscente il punto da cui sgorgava la resina e mi sono fermata a fotografarla.  La resina è molto appiccicosa e quando ci si inoltra per stretti passaggi fra gli alberi è facile trovarne poi traccia sui vestiti.

The definition of resin is:  any fat-soluble substance produced by a plant.  Actually,  resin is soluble not in water but in alcohol or ether,  it tends to dry out in contact with the air and has certain plastic and insulating properties.

Resin is produced by the plant following a stress or an intervention:  a wound or an attack by pathogens and its purpose is to protect the plant from this type of event and to close any wounds.

In my photos:  on the trunk of the pine,  the point from which the resin flowed was quite striking and I stopped to photograph it.  Resin is very sticky and when you go through narrow passages among the trees it is easy to find traces of it on your clothes.

    Throughout the area where we live there are vast forests of pine trees. During the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, there was a huge turpentine industry in Florida. The Greek base of the word “turpentine” means “resin”. Still today we find old pine trees with scars where they were cut to obtain the resin.
