Il richiamo della mamma.

In un bel giorno assolato di giugno, mentre parcheggiavamo l’auto davanti a Villa Saaro a Ruissalo, localita’ sul mare appena fuori Turku, ci siamo imbattuti in questa scenetta divertentissima (per noi): un Ostrichiere chiamava a gran voce il suo piccolo, cercando di farsi seguire, lanciando alte grida…

A noi la scena e’ sembrata comica, soprattutto per i sibili emessi dall’Ostrichiere madre, ma forse per il piccolo non c’era niente da ridere! 😉

Naturalmente ho impugnato la macchina fotografica e ho immortalato il tutto: nei due brevissimi video vedete i due animali in fuga tra le auto dei turisti e dei campeggiatori. Ascoltate anche il verso di questo uccello: davvero originale e bizzarro.

CURIOSITA’: l’Ostrichiere (Haematopus ostralegus) in italiano si chiama anche Beccaccia di mare, mentre in finnico si chiama Meriharakka, cioe’ Gazza di Mare.

Mum’s Calling.

One fine day last June, as we parked our car in front of Villa Saaro in Ruissalo, a seaside place near Turku, we were surprised by the loud screams of an Oystercatcher who was probably trying to show his chick the way.

Of course I seized my camera instantly and tried to shoot the scene, as to us it seemed comic: two birds, presumably mother and son, running among tourists, cars, campers and yelling so loud…well…to us it was funny to see, but probably for the little chick there was nothing so comic! 😉

In the two very short videos you can have an idea of what we saw: the scream you hear is the regular voice of the Oystercatcher.

A FUN FACT: the Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus) is called in Finnish: Meriharakka, which literally means Sea-Magpie.
