Una casetta rossa.

All’inizio di novembre e’ gia’ ora di allestire le mangiatoie per gli uccellini che non migrano e sono stanziali qui al nord:  cinciallegre,  cinciarelle,  zigoli gialli,  codibugnoli,  passerotti…  Quest’anno abbiamo piazzato una bella casetta rossa con semi vari  (di girasole,  avena,  frumento)  anche nel giardino dietro casa…

Sarebbe un errore sistemare il cibo troppo in anticipo:  si correrebbe il rischio di invogliare a rimanere anche uccelli che invece devono migrare.  Se qualcuno di loro attirato dal cibo facile rimanesse,  come i fringuelli o i pettirossi,  probabilmente soccomberebbe nel freddo inverno nordico.

A little red House.  

When November comes,  it is the correct moment to put out some food in the birds’ feeders,  for the ones who do not migrate:  great tits,  blue tits,  sparrows,  long-tailed tits,   yellowhammers…  This year we hanged a cute little red house full of various seeds in our rear garden:  oats,  wheat,  sunflower. 

It would be a mistake to arrange the food too early:  it might entice migratory birds to remain.  If any of them (such as Finches or Robins)  attracted by the easy food remained,  they would probably not survive  the cold Nordic winter.

Immediately some tits found it.  Here they are!

  6. In Italia piu’ che altro in zone montane, credo. Qui li si vede a fatica perche’ sono timidi e paurosi, ma li si sente, quando si chiamano l’un l’altro, perche’ si muovono in piccoli gruppi. Comunque li vedrai presto nel mio blog, Andy. Buona giornata!

  12. Here in the UK the garden birds are feeding on the berries in hedges and on trees. There are house sparrows, blackbirds, blue tits and a few crows. We put out bird food and watch from the window. Your bird feeder house is perfect. The blue tit photo is great and I like your atmospheric autumn leaves one too. Best wishes for a happy weekend.
