Tra Italia e Finlandia

Forse non e’ del tutto noto che l’Italia e’ un grande produttore di kiwi:  spesso alterna il primo posto al mondo con la Cina.  Il kiwi,  originario della Nuova Zelanda,  ama i climi umidi e non troppo soleggiati,  percio’  le pergole vengono protette da reti contro la luce solare diretta o la grandine  e irrigate da impianti a goccia che  mantengono costante l’umidita’ del suolo.  Viene coltivato abbondantemente nel nord Italia,  anche nel Veronese;  la produzione nazionale per l’anno 2014 e’ stata di 437.000 tonnellate.

Nelle foto:  la raccolta di questi amabili frutti,  che viene fatta nel mese di ottobre,  nella zona di Rosegaferro (VR).

Una curiosita’:  in italiano chiamiamo il frutto solamente “kiwi”,  ma in inglese si chiama correttamente “kiwifruit”,  in quanto il kiwi vero e proprio e’ un uccello,  dal quale il frutto prende il nome.

Italy is one of the top producers of kiwifruit:  in some years it alternates the first worldwide place with China.  This excellent fruit,  originally from New Zealand,  prefers humid climates,  therefore plants are always protected with nets against undue direct sunlight as well as hail,  and irrigated by drip systems to ensure optimal soil watering.  Kiwifruit is massively grown in northern Italy,  including the area of Verona:  national production in the year 2014 was about 437,000 tons.

In the photos:  kiwifruit harvest in the area of Rosegaferro (near Verona);   October is the harvest month for this fruit and this October has been incredibly mild,  so  harvesting is going well.  In Italian we call this fruit just “kiwi”,  as well as the bird.
