Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Ora e’ certo:  questo marzo 2026 passera’ alla storia delle rilevazioni meteo come il piu’ tiepido di sempre.  Dall’inizio del mese abbiamo infatti avuto temperature nettamente al di sopra della media ed in particolare le temperature notturne.  Il capovolgimento di fronte con i mesi precedenti e’ stato repentino:  gennaio e febbraio eccezionalmente freddi,  mentre marzo eccezionalmente caldo.  Date le giornate piacevolmente soleggiate,  la neve si e’ sciolta a ritmo accelerato,  poiche’ il termometro e’ sceso sotto lo zero in rarissime occasioni.

La crisi climatica e’ sotto gli occhi di tutti:  almeno di chi la vuol vedere.  Essa si manifesta infatti anche con questi estremi,  che sfuggono alla normalita’.

Gli uccelli migratori sono arrivati in anticipo;  cosi’ dice BIRDLIFE,  un ente di esperti ornitologi.  Dev’essere vero,  perche’ abbiamo visto noi stessi i primi Lucherini venire a cibarsi da noi a fine febbraio!  Il giorno 27 marzo ho visto la prima farfalla della stagione e mi e’ volata sul viso la prima mosca.  Adesso alle mangiatoie sono arrivati a cibarsi anche Fringuelli e Pettirossi,  mentre nel cielo risuonano i richiami delle Oche selvatiche e dei Cigni.

Non abbiamo ancora fiori in giardino,  Crocus e Bucaneve non si vedono ancora,  ma noi abitiamo in mezzo al bosco e gli alti alberi ci fanno ombra;  a chi ha angoli soleggiati esposti a sud invece,  qualcosa e’ gia’ spuntato.

Le giornate hanno preso ad allungarsi velocemente:  adesso,  dopo l’equizozio,  abbiamo iniziato a sorpassare l’Italia,  che riacciufferemo a settembre.

La notizia del mese e’ che la Finlandia si e’ classificata per la nona volta al primo posto dei paesi piu’ felici nel World Happiness Report delle Nazioni Unite.   Come tutti gli altri anni,  molti si chiedono il motivo di tanta felicita’;  esso va ricercato non solo nel fatto che qui le cose funzionano,  ma anche nella mentalita’,  come mi ha fatto giustamente notare l’amica E.,  expat di origine bulgara.  Non e’ cosa da poco.  Comunque a chi ancora si chiedesse questa cosa e non fosse ancora stato qui,  mi sento di dire:  venite e vedete!

Se venite a fare un giro da queste parti,  ingrosserete le fila dei moltissimi turisti che hanno scelto questo Paese come meta per le loro vacanze,  sia invernali che estive.  Il turismo qui in Finlandia ha avuto infatti una notevole impennata da qualche anno a questa parte:  qui possiamo offrire wellness-tourism,  riconnessione con una natura viva,  rigogliosa e fresca,  paesaggi rilassanti e spostamenti tranquilli,  alta qualita’ di vita.  Un notevole mix di natura e tradizioni primordiali e di alti standard di modernita’.

Anche la Finlandia pero’ e’ giustamente preoccupata,  come lo sono tutte le persone ragionavoli,  che le guerre in corso si amplino e diventino un’unica guerra mondiale.  Purtroppo il mondo in questo momento e’ in mano ad autocrati accecati dal delirio di onnipotenza,  dalla sete di potere,  dalla volonta’ di passare alla storia,  dalla volonta’ di sterminare il nemico,  anche quando il nemico si rivela essere un pugno di gente civile che va al lavoro in autobus o una comunita’ di povera gente o di bambini da deportare.  Questi autocrati inoltre sono circondati da personaggi altrettanto squallidi,  che fanno di tutto per compiacere i loro capi,  passando sopra a bugie,  minacce,  giravolte,  proclami,  pensando solo al proprio guadagno,  facendo anzi insider-trading.   Ma la cosa che da’ maggiormente il voltastomaco e’ che tutti questi autocrati si autoproclamano protetti dal loro Dio:  sono tutti eletti,  scelti,  mendati da Dio.  Quando l’irragionevolezza si appella alla religione…

Fra le altre notizie del mese,  vi racconto che la Finlandia,  insieme ad altri Paesi,  ha boicottato la cerimonia di apertura delle Paralimpiadi di Milano-Cortina,  per protesta contro il permesso accordato ad atleti russi e bielorussi di gareggiare con la propria bandiera.

Altre notizie spicciole:  800mila sono le persone che hanno visitato la Casa di Babbo Natale a Rovaniemi nel 2025.

La differenza fra le persone che sono andate via dalla Finlandia nel 2025 e quelle che sono arrivate e’ +34.800.  In realta’ ci sarebbe bisogno di oltre 40.000 lavoratori stranieri ogni anno.

L’Islanda sta valutando di entrare a far parte della UE e la Svezia di entrare nell’area Euro.

La tassa di successione in Finlandia va pagata a partire da un valore di 30.000 euro,  mentre in Italia da 1 milione di euro.

Per coprire le rotte europee,  la compagnia di bandiera nazionale finlandese FINNAIR sta valutando di acquistare almeno 18 nuovi aeromobili,  in particolare dalla brasiliana Embraer,  poiche’ i nuovi modelli consumano meno carburante.

Il servizio tramviario a Turku cesso’ nel 1972,  ma adesso la citta’ sta valutando la reintroduzione.

A Month in my Photos.

It’s now certain:  March 2026 will go down in weather history as the warmest ever.  Since the beginning of the month,  temperatures have been significantly above average,  especially at night.  The reversal from the previous months was sudden:  January and February were exceptionally cold,  while March was exceptionally warm.  Given the pleasantly sunny days,  the snow melted at a rapid pace,  as the thermometer rarely dropped below freezing.

The climate crisis is there for all to see:  at least for those who want to see it.  It manifests itself even in these extremes,  which are beyond the norm.

Migratory birds have arrived early;  so says BIRDLIFE,  an organization of ornithological experts.  It must be true,  because we ourselves saw the first Siskins coming to feed in our area at the end of February!  On March 27th,  I saw the first butterfly of the season and the first fly flew onto my face.  Now,  Finches and Robins have arrived to feed at the feeders,  while the calls of wild Geese and Swans resonate in the sky.

We don’t have any flowers in the garden yet,  Crocuses and Snowdrops aren’t visible,  but we live in the middle of the woods,  and the tall trees provide shade;  for those of us with sunny,  south-facing corners,  however,  something has already appeared.

The days have started to lengthen rapidly:  now,  after the equizox,  we’ve begun to overtake Italy,  which we’ll catch up with in September.

The news of the month is that Finland has ranked first among the happiest countries in the United Nations World Happiness Report for the ninth time.  Like every other year,  many are wondering the reason for so much happiness;  it must be sought not only in the fact that things work here,  but also in the mentality,  as my friend E.,  an expat of Bulgarian origin,  rightly pointed out to me.  This is no small thing.  However,  for anyone who is still wondering this and hasn’t been here yet,  I feel like saying:  come and see!

If you come for a tour here,  you’ll join the ranks of the many tourists who have chosen this country as a destination for their holidays,  both winter and summer.  Tourism here in Finland has seen a notable surge in recent years:  here we can offer wellness tourism,  reconnection with a living,  lush and fresh nature,  relaxing landscapes and peaceful travel  and a high quality of life.   A remarkable mix of nature and primordial traditions and high standards of modernity.

However,  Finland is also rightly concerned,  as are all reasonable people worldwide,  that the ongoing wars will expand and become a single world war.  Unfortunately,  the world at this moment is in the hands of autocrats blinded by delusions of omnipotence,  by the thirst for power,  by the desire to go down in history,  by the desire to exterminate the enemy,  even when the enemy turns out to be a handful of normal people going to work by bus or a community of poor people or children to be deported.  These autocrats are also surrounded by equally squalid characters,  who do everything to please their bosses,  overlooking lies,  threats,  about-faces,  proclamations,  thinking only of their own gain,  indeed engaging in insider trading.  But the most sickening thing is that all these autocrats proclaim themselves protected by their God:  they are all elected,  chosen and sent by God.  When unreasonableness appeals to religion…

Among other news this month,  I’ll tell you that Finland,  along with other countries,  boycotted the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Paralympics,  protesting the permission granted to Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their own flags.

More small news:  800,000 people visited Santa Claus’s House in Rovaniemi in 2025.

The difference between the number of people who left Finland in 2025 and those who arrived is +34,800.  Actually,  over 40,000 foreign workers are needed each year.

Iceland is considering joining the EU,  and Sweden is considering joining the Eurozone.

Inheritance tax in Finland is payable on assets worth €30,000 or more,  while in Italy it is paid on assets worth €1 million or more.

To cover European routes,  Finland’s national airline FINNAIR is considering purchasing at least 18 new aircraft,  primarily from Brazil’s Embraer,  as the new models are more fuel-efficient.

Tram service in Turku ceased in 1972,  but the city is now considering reintroducing it.
