Il Ponte Carlo e’ questo magnifico ponte in pietra che corre tra una riva e l’altra del fiume Moldava,  nel centro di Praga e collega la Citta’ Vecchia al quartiere di Malá Strana.  Finito di costruire agli inizi del 1400 e arricchito di statue barocche di ispirazione religiosa durante il 1600,  il ponte e’ fra i luoghi iconici di questa bellissima citta’ ed e’ una meta che tutti i turisti conoscono.

Il ponte e’ anche un luogo di ritrovo,  sempre animatissimo di gente,  musicisti o venditori di souvenir compresi.

Il ponte e’ delimitato da due enormi torri gotiche molto scenografiche,  attraverso le quali passava il corteo dell’incoronazione dei re per recarsi nella Cattedrale del Castello.

CURIOSITA’:   Fra le statue che decorano il ponte,  la piu’ importante e’ quella di San Giovanni Nepomuceno,  vicario dell’arcidiocesi di Praga durante il regno di Venceslao IV.  Potete leggere la sua storia nel mio post:  Il Santo delle acque.

Along Charles Bridge.

Charles Bridge is this magnificent stone bridge that runs between one bank and the other of the Vltava river,  in the center of Prague and connects the Old Town to the Malá Strana district.  Finished in the early 1400s and enriched with baroque statues of religious inspiration during the 1600s,  the bridge is one of the iconic places of this beautiful city and is a destination that all tourists know.

The bridge is also a meeting place,  always full of people,  including musicians or souvenir sellers.

The bridge is bordered by two huge,  very scenic Gothic towers,  through which the coronation procession of the kings passed,  to go to the Cathedral,  located in the Castle.

A FUN FACT:   Among the statues that decorate the bridge,  the most important is that of Saint John of Nepomuk,  vicar of the archdiocese of Prague during the reign of king Wenceslas IV.  You can read his story in my post:  Il Santo delle acque.
