Il Sorbo (Sorbus domestica)  e’ una pianta dall’origine antichissima che produce grappoli di bacche rosse molto amate dagli uccelli.  Il suo aspetto puo’ essere di arbusto deciduo ma puo’ arrivare ad essere anche un grande albero.

Il Sorbo storicamente e’ stato sfruttato per le proprieta’ vitaminiche delle sue bacche,  che sono commestibili e che in Finlandia vengono usate per farne per lo piu’ marmellate.  Oggigiorno comunque gli vengono preferite altre bacche ed altri frutti.

A primavera il sorbo fiorisce con piccoli fiorellini bianchi,  mentre le bacche maturano ad autunno inoltrato.  E’ un albero frondoso,  diffuso nelle zone collinari e montane di tutta Europa,  essendo una pianta resistente al freddo.  In Finlandia e’ molto popolare in quanto si trova in abbondanza in natura e le sue bacche rosse spiccano nel panorama brullo di novembre o sul bianco delle prime nevicate.

CURIOSITA’:  Qualcuno di voi conoscera’ lo zucchero chiamato Sorbitolo,  che prende il nome dalle bacche di questa pianta.

The Rowan.

The Rowan (Sorbus domestica)  is a plant with an ancient origin that produces clusters of red berries much loved by birds. 

It can look like a deciduous shrub but it can also be a large tree.  The Rowan has ever been exploited for the many properties of its berries,  which are edible and which in Finland are used for making jams.  Nowadays,  however,  other berries and other fruits are preferred.

In spring the Rowan blooms with small white flowers,  while the berries ripen in late autumn.  Its branches are wide.  It is widespread in hilly and mountainous areas throughout Europe,  being a cold-resistant plant.  In Finland it is very popular as it is found in abundance in nature and its red berries stand out in the barren landscape of November or on the white of the first snowfalls.

A FUN FACT:  The name of the sugar called:  Sorbitol comes from this plant.

  30. Sempre belle le foto e i tuoi commenti!
    Fra pochi giorni partirò per Helsinki per un trekking di una settimana con la “compagnia dei cammini”, un gruppo di cammino italiano molto conosciuto! Partiremo poi a piedi da Multia e solo a piedi ci sposteremo. L’itinerario è sul sito della compagnia. Se hai tempo, dacci un’occhiata! Buona giornata
