Un corteggiatore (ignorato).

Ad aprile le anatre Quattrocchi (Bucephala clangula)  sono appena tornate in Finlandia dalla migrazione invernale e i maschi iniziano i rituali di corteggiamento.  Non si puo’ perdere tempo:  nella breve estate artica e’ necessario procreare presto in modo che i nuovi nati siano abbastanza robusti per affrontare la migrazione autunnale.

Questa coppia e’ proprio nel bel mezzo delle danze di corteggiamento:  il maschio alza il capo e lo butta all’indietro ritmicamente…

Il nome Quattrocchi e’ dovuto proprio alla vistosa macchia bianca sotto gli occhi del maschio,  la femmina e’ marron-rossastra con qualche striatura bianca sulle ali.   In finnico si chiamano:  Telkkä.

Purtroppo questo bel pretendente non ha molto successo…nel brevissimo video sottostante vedete la reazione della femmina:

Forse era ancora stanca del viaggio?  😉

Duckie went a courtin’.

In April the Common Goldeneye ducks (Bucephala clangula)  have just returned to Finland from their winter migration and the males begin courtship rituals.  There is no time to waste:  in the short Arctic summer it is necessary to procreate early so that the newborns are robust enough to face the autumn migration. 

This couple is right in the middle of the courtship dances:  the male raises his head and throws it backwards rhythmically …

The name Goldeneye is due precisely to the showy white spot under the eyes of the male.  The female is reddish-brown with some white streaks on the wings.  In Finnish they are called: Telkkä. 

Unfortunately this suitor is not very successful … in the very short video above you can see the reaction of the female.

Maybe she was still tired with the journey?  😉
