Gabbianelli.

Qualche giorno fa,  durante la trasmissione Geo,  su Raitre,  il naturalista Francesco Petretti parlava dei gabbianelli,  osservandoli sul fiume Tevere durante una sosta nella loro migrazione verso nord. 

Diceva che sono piu’ piccoli di altri gabbiani,  ma altrettanto rumorosi,  strilloni ed intraprendenti.  Diceva anche che sono solo di passo in Italia,  infatti nidificano qui nell’estremo nord in estate e si spostano nel sud del Mediterraneo in inverno.  Maschi e femmine hanno il medesimo piumaggio.

Allora mi sono ricordata che ho varie foto e ve le propongo.  Questi si chiamano:  Larus ribundus,  in finnico:  Naurulokki ed e’ decisamente facile vederli da queste parti.

CURIOSITA’:  Il cappuccio di piume color grigio-antracite sul musetto scompare con l’eta’,  diventa bianco.

Little Seagulls.

A few days ago,  during an Italian tv programme,  nature scientist Francesco Petretti was talking about a smaller type of  seagulls,  observing them on the Tiber river during a stop on their migration to the north.

He said they are smaller than other seagulls,  but just as noisy,  shouting and cheecky.  He also said that they are only passing over Italy,  in fact they nest here in the far north in summer and move to the south of the Mediterranean in winter.

Then I remembered that I have several photos of these seagulls and I propose them to you.  These are called:  Black-headed Gulls  (Larus ribundus),  in Finnish:  Naurulokki and are very commonly seen over here.

A FUN FACT:  The dark-grey/black cap on their muzzle disappears with age:  the feathers turn white.

  4. Così con il muso nero da queste parti non se ne vedono. Ce sono tanti e a volte fanno impressione da quanto sono grandi (attaccano i piccioni, ma anche i topi) e ovviamente ti lascio immaginare che “tracce” lascino sulle macchine!

  19. Great pictures! They look much like a seagull we have here called the Laughing Gull. The word cheeky would describe them as well, as they are notorious for snatching food from your hand when least expected. Then they will sit in the sand and “laugh” at you. The best response is just to laugh along with them.

  20. complimenti vivissimi per le immagini, ritrarre uccelli in volo è molto difficile, e soprattutto ritrarli con la luce giusta e con l’apertura alare perfetta. 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏 Immagini eccellenti!
