Un mercatino turistico.

Nella zona portuale di Helsinki dove attraccano le navi da crociera,  poco distante dalla piazza del duomo,  si svolge tutti i giorni ed in tutte le stagioni un mercatino fatto su misura per i turisti mordi-e-fuggi,  quelli che si fermano a Helsinki per un giorno o per qualche ora.  Il mercatino e’ molto caratteristico e variopinto e anche chi non ama questo tipo di posti,  puo’ comunque fare un giro,  godere della bella zona di Katajanokka a pochi passi e magari sedersi ad un chiosco a sorseggiare qualcosa assaggiando una gustosa salsiccia.

La frutta e le verdure sono le protagoniste del mercatino:  coltivate in loco o d’importazione,  si trovano sempre freschissime.  In stagione anche i funghi.  Nella foto sopra:  fragole autoctone,  come si vede dalla bandiera;  la scritta “supermakea” significa:  “super dolci”.

Inutile dire che a Natale il mercatino si arricchisce d’atmosfera:

A tourist Market.

In the harbour area of Helsinki where cruise ships dock,  not far from the Cathedral square,  a special market takes place every day and in all seasons for eat-and-go tourists,  those who stop in Helsinki for a day or for a few hours. The proper place name is:  Kauppatori.

The market is very characteristic and colorful and even those who do not like this type of places can still take a tour,  enjoy the beautiful near-by area of Katajanokka and maybe sit at a kiosk to sip something while tasting a tasty sausage.

Shall we look around?

Fruit and vegetables are the protagonists of the market:  grown locally or imported,  they are always very fresh.  You will find mushrooms too,  in season.  In the photo above:  native strawberries,  as seen from the flag;  the word “supermakea” means “super sweet”.

Needless to say:  at Christmas the market offers a unique athmosphere.

In the next post,  a few more views of the strictly tourist part.

But be careful:  this is a harbour area and a food market,  so seagulls are always there too…

  8. Era mia intenzione (se l’anno scorso il Covid non avesse mandato tutto all’aria) raggiungere Helsink via traghetto dalla Estonia. Sarebbe stato bello, no?
    Spero possa realizzarsi presto, magari l’anno prossimo.

  39. Quando vai in un altro paese, anche se non parli correntemente la lingua del posto, alcune parole è fondamentale conoscerle… “supermakea” è una di queste! A dirla tutta potrebbe tornarmi utile anche qui visto che lavoro nel reparto ortofrutta di un ipermercato. Metti che un turista finlandese, indicandomi un frutto, pronunciasse quella parola io ora so cosa intende!
