Itinerario di viaggio.

finland-mapBuongiorno cari lettori.  Oggi vi propongo l’itinerario del viaggio che abbiamo appena fatto attraverso la Finlandia del centro-nord con puntatina in Lapponia,  che potrebbe essere tranquillamente un itinerario consigliato a quanti fra voi volessero fare una vacanza da queste parti.

Con l’aiuto della cartina e della rotta che vi ho tracciato,  potete vedere le localita’ che abbiamo toccato.  Ho considerato Helsinki come punto di partenza.

Il mio consiglio per un itinerario come questo e’ la formula Fly&Drive:  cioe’ arrivare in aereo dall’Italia e trovare gia’ un’auto a noleggio avendola prenotata da casa.  Vi dara’ la piu’ ampia liberta’ di movimento.

Iniziamo dunque il nostro itinerario dalla capitale,  che vi invito a visitare per almeno tre giorni,  programmabili all’inizio come alla fine della vacanza.

Da Helsinki ci spostiamo a Kuopio,  nella zona dei laghi,  dove il paesaggio si arricchisce di acqua e di blu.  In questo post non mi dilunghero’ sulle cose da vedere in ogni localita’,  per il momento mi atterro’ all’itinerario.  

Ecco uno scorcio di Kuopio:  il mercato coperto Kauppahalli,  in stile Jugend,  che si trova sulla piazza principale della citta’ dal 1902.

Noi dopo Kuopio abbiamo proseguito per Kuhmo,  una cittadina che si trova molto ad est,  vicino al confine Russo.  A Kuhmo abbiamo apprezzato l’architettura moderna della Kuhmo-Talo,  cioe’ la multisala da concerti e arti varie.  Anche Kuhmo si affaccia su un lago piuttosto grande e offre delle graziose vedute.

La prossima tappa per noi e’ stato il comprensorio sciistico di Ruka/Kuusamo,  dove si scia per 200 giorni l’anno!  A Kuusamo,  paradiso naturalistico circondato da laghi,  fiumi e cascate,   abbiamo visto le renne passeggiare sulla ciclabile accanto ai ciclisti.

Kuusamo (16)La sosta piu’ lunga l’abbiamo fatta a Rovaniemi,  capoluogo della Lapponia,  ma solo porta d’accesso a questa regione,  infatti se guardate la cartina vedete bene quanto e’ estesa la Lapponia e Rovaniemi si trova all’estremo sud.  Qui abbiamo visto,  fra le altre cose,  la chiesa e naturalmente la residenza di Babbo Natale!

Tornando verso sud e verso casa,  ci siamo fermati nella pittoresca Kajaani,  nella Finlandia centrale.  Abbiamo dormito in un hotel che era una vecchia dimora di campagna e ci e’ piaciuto molto.

IMG_2809Consiglio anche una visita a Tampere e Turku,  naturalmente,  se possibile.  Sulla mia cartina Tampere e’ la localita’ di arrivo e Turku non l’ho nemmeno evidenziata,  ma sono citta’ importanti,  come del resto e’ Oulu,  a ridosso del Circolo Polare Artico.  Abbiamo anche lasciato fuori tutta la zona costiera e la parte ovest,  ma come in ogni viaggio non si puo’ vedere sempre tutto…e la Finlandia e’ grande.  Allora a presto per i post monografici su ogni localita’.  Buona giornata a tutti!

A suggested Trip.

Good Morning, dear readers.  Today I want to share with you the trip we just took through center and north Finland,  which could easily become a suggestion for those of you who are planning a holiday here.  We got a glimpse of lapland too.

In the above map you can have an idea of the route we followed and the places we saw.  I fixed Helsinki as the starting point.

If you are planning to travel in Finland in total freedom,  my advice is to book a Fly&Drive travel package;  when you land in Helsinki you will find a rented car which you had booked before departure from your home.

So let’s get started from Helsinki.  Being the capital city of Finland and a stately city,  it quite deserves a visit.  Consider three days to see the major highlights – at the beginning or at the end of your holiday.

The first part of our trip will take us from Helsinki to Kuopio,  in the lake district,  where landscape is rich in water and blue corners.  In this post I will not deal with what is possible to visit in every place – I will just stick to the itinerary and post one photo for each place..

In the first photo above you can appreciate the historical covered market in Kuopio,  the Kauppahalli;  an elegant Jugend style building located in the main square since 1902.

In the second photo we are already in Kuhmo,  a town very close to the Russian border in east Finland.  In Kuhmo we liked to see the Kuhmo-Talo,  the Arts Centre,  with its neat contemporary architecture.

Moving north from Kuhmo,  we will stop in the skiing area of Ruka/Kuusamo,  where you can ski for 200 days a year!  Not only ski or winter activities,  though:  Kuusamo is a hiking paradise,  being surrounded by lakes,  streams and waterfalls.  In Kuusamo we saw reindeer walk on the bike trail together with bikers.

In our own trip we stayed a few days in Rovaniemi,  the capital town of the region Lapland.  If you check the map,  you will clearly see that Rovaniemi is just the gateway to Lapland,  as it is located in its most southern point.  There is a lot of territory to explore further northbound.  In Rovaniemi we visited the modern church and of course Santa Claus Village.

On our way back home,  we stopped in the beautiful city of Kajaani,  in central Finland.  We stayed in a hotel which is a former manor house and we liked it.

Of course this is just one of the many itineraries possible to discover Finland and make the most of it.  I will recommend a visit to Tampere (our arrival point on the map)  and Turku,  as well as Oulu (located just below the Arctic Circle),  because they are important cities,  but you probably cannot see all.  I have left out the western area of the country and the west coast too… Finland is after all quite big.

  1. You had a fantastic RUSKA trip! Beautiful photos, the church is wonderful. I have been once in Ivalo during ruska time and also met reindeer on the roads. Visited Posio and Ruka only in winter time, having a skiing holiday then. A lot of snow and freezing cold. Thank you for bringing me memories, wishing a splendid weekend.

  31. Your travel package sounds like a dream:) Love the yellow building on the square. three days would be too short for me. I need at least 5 days plus two days for travel, lol.   33. Gran bell’itinerario! Ovviamente la casa di Babbo Natale è imperdibile. Com’è guidare da quelle parti? Si riesce a orientarsi agevolmente coi nomi delle strade? E’ la mia maggiore preoccupazione nel caso dovessi organizzare una vacanza in Finlandia…

  34. Si guida molto bene, Nadia, soprattutto perche’ il volume di traffico e’ molto ridotto al di fuori delle grandi citta’. Ti diro’ di piu*: qui la densita’ abitativa e’ generalmente scarsa e i centri abitati sono rarefatti, per cui non ci sono le miriadi di cartelli stradali che abbiamo in Italia. I nomi delle strade sono indicati chiaramente e le strade stesse…non sono poi cosi’ numerose! Nei prossimi post parlo anche di questo.
