Questo post è per gli amanti della musica d’organo,  come siamo io e Risto. 

Il titolo del post è preso direttamente dalla rassegna:  “Vespri d’organo in Cattedrale”,  una serie di concerti tenuti nel duomo di Verona da allievi del conservatorio locale.  Vespri perchè i concerti si tengono alle 17.30 e in cattedrale perchè qui si trova un prestigioso organo anche molto bello a vedersi data la sua collocazione in una cassa antica.  La cattedrale di Verona,  nella foto qui sopra,  che data la sua costruzione fra l’VIII e il IX secolo,  è collocata nel centro storico della città,  in riva al fiume Adige ed è intitolata a Santa Maria Assunta.

Ed ecco il bellissimo organo.  Dati tecnici:  costruttore:  Barthélemy Formentelli (ricostruzione in stile Antegnati)  anno 1991.

Sono andata a qualche concerto della rassegna:  i brani in programma prevedevano anche l’esibizione di cantanti lirici,  sempre provenienti dal conservatorio.  Uno spettacolo avvincente;  ne consiglio l’ascolto non solo agli amanti di questo genere musicale:  l’organo è uno strumento straordinario,  dolce e forte,  sussurrato e potente.  Tutto da scoprire.

Curiosità:  sapevate che l’organo è l’unico strumento capace di riprodurre tutta la gamma di suoni udibili dall’orecchio umano?

Organ Vespers.      

Today I’ll propose a post for pipe organ music lovers,  as we are.

The title of the post comes from a series of organ recitals held in the Verona cathedral by the students of the local music College:  “Vespri d’organo in Cattedrale” means:  “Organ Vespers in the Cathedral”.   Vespers because the concerts were held at 5.30 p.m.,  the time of the evening prayer in the Catholic religion (Vesper) and in the cathedral as it is the place where this beautiful pipe organ is located. 

Our cathedral,  which facade you can see in my very first shot,  is named after the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.  It stands just in the old city centre,  by the river Adige.  The cathedral dates back to the seventh-eighth century AD.  The organ was reconstructed by Barthélemy Formentelli (according to Antegnati style),  in 1991 and is inserted in an old embroidered wooden box.

I had the possibility to enjoy a few concerts there,  where also some opera singers performed,  again from the local music college.   In my opinion the pipe organ as a musical instrument is fascinating and I recommend listening to some organ music also to the people who apparently do not like it,  because it is worth re-discovering it.  The organ can be sweet but also powerful,  it can whisper music or fill the room with it.

A fun fact:  did you know that the pipe organ is the only instrument able to let out the complete range of sounds human ears can hear?

  18. These beautiful organs remind me on my time of Holland, where concerts of this nature was a part of life, and also concerts with opera music! Now we really live too far away from a city that would have opera concerts. Love the landscape in your first photo, so typical of the Italian landscape, and wish I could just hop over to get some warmth and sun! What a lovely post for All Seasons’ January!   30. Ho visto l’organo di cui parlavi…è un portento! Con canne orizzontali, persino. Molto bello. Ho in canna un altro paio di post su organi speciali, ma me li tengo per il futuro 😉 Uno degli strumenti che ascolto più volentieri. Buona giornata, Lilly! P.S.: ascolto anche i Guns’n’Roses, però…
