Anche quest’anno, trovandomi nella mia Verona, ho avuto la possibilità di recarmi nella vicina Mantova e assistere ad un paio di concerti della rassegna: Trame sonore – Mantova Chamber Music festival (di cui vi avevo parlato QUI ).
Nel pomeriggio del 1 giugno, in particolare, nella Cappella palatina di S. Barbara (che vedete nelle foto), annessa allo storico Palazzo Ducale, ho ascoltato l’ensemble Accademia d’Arcadia eseguire alcuni mottetti sacri di Alessandro Grandi. Per me non certo musica di tutti i giorni, per cui mi hanno suscitato curiosità ed interesse: davvero un’esperienza gradevole.

L’ Accademia d’Arcadia è un gruppo vocale composto da tenori, bassi, contralti e soprani che canta in un abile contraltare di voci. Gli unici strumenti musicali d’accompagnamento sono: l’organo e la tiorba, questo enorme liuto a molteplici corde che vedete nelle foto, la cui creazione risale al XVI secolo.

Church Music in Mantova.
At the beginning of June I had the pleasure to attend a few concerts in Mantua, during the Mantova Chamber Music Festival (I told about the venue HERE).
I was particularly curious to listen to the Accademia d’Arcadia group performing some Alessandro Grandi motets, in the Santa Barbara Cathedral (in the above shots), extension to the Palazzo Ducale, the historical Duke’s residence. To me surely not everyday music, therefore very interesting and pleasant.

In the Accademia d’Arcadia vocal group there are tenors, contraltos, bassos and sopranos; they sing with a clever polyphonic effect. Their only accompanying musical instruments are the organ and the theorbo, which you can see in my shots. The theorbo is a string instrument of the lute family particularly used in the Baroque music in 16th century.
