Iso-Valkee.

Il pittoresco laghetto di Iso-Valkee si trova nella zona di Kiikala, un’area forestale non lontano da Somero, il nostro paese di residenza. Kiikala si estende su una vasta superficie quasi esclusivamente di bosco, nella quale si trovano alcuni laghi (come sempre, qui in Finlandia!) Iso-Valkee è il piu’ smeraldino di tutti, perchè il suo fondo non è argilloso come gli altri: essendoci anche varie spiaggette naturali di sabbia, molta gente va a farci il bagno o a trascorrerci alcune ore nelle belle giornate estive. Veramente Kiikala, che dà il nome a quest’area, è anche un grazioso paesino, con circa 2000 abitanti, che però scompare per importanza se si guarda all’estensione della sua area forestale: 245 km quadrati circa.

Iso-Valkee.

This is the name of the beautiful lake in this post; it is located in the forest area of Kiikala, not far from Somero, where we live. Kiikala, after which all this area is named, is a cute small town with about 2000 inhabitants, but its importance is little in comparison with the huge extension of forests around it. The area includes a few lakes, (as it always happens here in Finland!) of which Iso-Valkee is the most precious, as its water is very transparent, with emerald hues. This is due to its bottom: it is sandy, not clay. All around Iso-Valkee you can find a few sandy beaches too and in summer many people will go sunbathing, sporting, swimming.
