Il bel maschio di Balia nera (Ficedula hypoleuca), in finnico: Kirjosieppo, appena arrivato nel nostro giardino dalla migrazione primaverile, dopo accurata ispezione si e’ prontamente appropriato di una delle nostre casette di legno e si accinge a farci il nido.
Bene…la casa e’ sistemata!
Ora bisogna trovare una compagna: per cui tutto baldanzoso si mette sul tetto della casetta e lancia il suo richiamo di corteggiamento. Come dire: “Io sono un buon partito: ho gia’ una bella casetta…venite, ragazze, venite!”
E come si impegna nel canto: Guardate che tipo!
Calling out for Company.
This black-and-white guy is the male European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca), in Finnish: Kirjosieppo. He has just arrived from the spring migration and after accurate inspection has taken possession of one of the many nest boxes we set up in our garden. He is ready to build his nest in there.
All right: the house is found!
Now he needs a mate. He knows what to do to attract a female: he will stand on top of the box singing loud, claiming that he is a very good party! As if to say: I’ve got a place to stay, so…come girls…come!

Ascoltare gli uccelli è un vero spettacolo, vivo in campagna e quindi lo so bene. Qualche volta ho sentito anche , tra i canneti sulle rive del lago, un mix di uccellini, anatre e ranocchi… ero tra l’incanto e le risate, alle nostre orecchie sono anche molto buffi!

We have tree swallows nesting. I think both sexes participate in the nest building, egg hatching and feeding their young. At least watching them it appears that both come and go from the nest frequently. – Margy
