Lux Helsinki. (part 1)

Helsinki, la capitale della Finlandia, e’ una citta’ molto vivace: c’e’ sempre qualcosa di nuovo da fare e da vedere – specialmente per gli amanti dell’arte moderna. Dal 5 al 9 gennaio si e’ tenuta la manifestazione annuale: Lux Helsinki, un’esposizione di installazioni artistiche luminose disseminate in vari punti del centro citta’. Le installazioni, circa 30 opere di vari artisti, erano raggiungibili a piedi lungo un percorso preciso ed erano accese dalle ore 17, all’arrivo del buio. La partecipazione di gente e’ stata notevole: inutile dire che alcune strade erano chiuse ed il traffico deviato. Noi siamo andati il 5 gennaio ed e’ stata una serata piacevolissima: il tempo era assolutamente adatto: solo -5 gradi e senza vento; ovviamente eravamo ben coperti! La ciliegina sulla torta e’ stato il leggero strato di neve presente, che ha accentuato i riflessi delle luci!

Vi propongo la prima delle installazioni che ho maggiormente gradito: il voluminoso Museo di arte contemporanea Kiasma, illuminato con una specie di arcobaleno o di aurora boreale, dall’artista belga Ann Veronica Janssens, la quale cerca attraverso lo spettro di luci di attivare ed intensificare la capacita’ di osservazione umana. Titolo dell’opera: Orange Sky Blue. Praticamente le persone che si trovavano dentro il museo in quel momento erano dentro l’opera d’arte!

La seconda opera che vi propongo e’ altrettanto interessante, ma per essere apprezzata va vista in movimento, per cui ho realizzato un breve video. L’opera si intitola: Trespassing e il significato… si coglie al volo. L’artista e’ il finlandese Immanuel Pax.

Lux Helsinki. (part 1)

Helsinki is a diverse city and there are events all year round: always something to see, to do, to take part to, particularly concerning moder art – after all, it is the capital of Finland! From 5th to 9th January the annual light festival Lux Helsinki took place. It is about circa 30 light installations, created by different artists, placed in several spots along a very easily walkable itinerary in the city centre: the artworks were illuminated from 5 p.m., as darkness comes. Needless to say that a few roads were closed and special traffic arrangements were made to allow the many visitors to enjoy the event. We were there on Sat. 5th and it was a very pleasant evening: -5C temperature, windless and no precipitations: you just needed correct clothes. The most appreciated feature was the thin layer of snow everywhere, which enhanced the light works!

The installation number one I would like to share with you is by Belgian artist Ann Veronica Janssens, who uses the power of light to explore and strenghten human observations: the bizarre shape of the Contemporary Art Museum Kiasma was illuminated with a sort of rainbow, or nordic lights. The title is: Orange Sky Blue and I liked it also because the people who were in the museum at that time, were actually in the artwork itself!

The second installation I have for you is by Finnish artist Immanuel Pax and the title is: Trespassing; the meaning of it is easy to catch. As a matter of fact, it is best appreciated in motion, so I shot a short video. Enjoy it!
