“Walking in the air”…

Oggi vi propongo una canzone natalizia e la sua cover,  entrambe vere chicche!

Si tratta di una canzoncina per bambini tratta da un cartone animato inglese ma popolarissimo in Finlandia intitolato:  The Snowman (L’uomo di neve – Lumiukko,  creato da Raymond Briggs),  il quale narra la storia di un bimbo che si fa un viaggio assieme al proprio pupazzo di neve per andare da Babbo Natale.  Il cartone animato,  della durata di circa mezz’ora,  e’ senza parole ma contiene questa meravigliosa canzoncina…qui nella versione originale…ascoltate!

Il titolo della canzoncina e’ il proprio il titolo del post:  Walking in the air;  la melodia cosi’ suggestiva,  gentile e d’atmosfera e’ gia’ molto bella in originale…ma veniamo alla cover.

L’ hard rock e’ un genere musicale molto in voga da queste parti  (forse per l’anima rock del popolo finlandese)  al punto che vari gruppi musicali appartenenti a questo genere musicale hanno rifatto in chiave hard parecchie melodie natalizie tradizionali.  I Nightwish hanno messo mano a questa in particolare e ne hanno tratto questo capolavoro:  ascoltate!  (A volume alto,  naturalmente!)

“Walking in the air…       

Today I’ll share with you a lovely Christmas song in two versions:  original and cover.

The original is the soundtrack of a children’s animation created by British author Raymond Briggs and very popular in Finland called:  The Snowman (Lumiukko in Finnish).  This sweet animation,  which tells the story of a boy who flies with his own snowman to Santa Claus,  does not have words:  only one song is sung and it is a masterpiece:  listen!

I love this melody:  it is gentle and sweet.  Its title is just the title of my post:  Walking in the air.  Now let’s talk about its cover,  not less appreciable. 

Hard rock is very much listened to in Finland (I think Finnish people are quite rock in their deepest after all) and many bands have made hard rock covers even of traditional Christmas songs.  The metal band Nightwish have made this masterpiece out of the above sweet song:  listen!  (In a high volume,  please!)

If I can be honest,  I like both versions very much!  What about you?

  3. I love the original short movie The Snowman and the music. My children have grown up watching it on television each Christmas and it’s now a favourite classic for future generations. I also appreciate the other version. Buon Natale!

  5. It’s a wonderful film and a wonderful song… and I liked the Nightwish version too.
    Strangely, when I clicked the link to see the original version, YouTube says the video is unavailable due to a copyright claim. There are other videos available though.

  8. Sai, parecchi anni fa ordinai per posta dall’Inghilterra proprio i libretti di “Snowman” per i miei bimbi! letti e riletti,hanno ancora un posto d’onore nella libreria!

  39. Bellissime entrambe le versioni , questo cartone io lo adoro e lo trovo molto emozionante. Alla prima neve lo propongo sempre ai miei bambini a scuola. Appena finisce l’esclamazione generale é “lo guardiamo ancora?” Ciao e auguriii
