Cumuli.

Un post dedicato agli appassionati di osservazione del cielo e di meteorologia,  a molti miei ex colleghi con i quali ho condiviso questa passione quando lavoravo in aeroporto,  ai naviganti che ho conosciuto,  che ci vivono in mezzo ogni giorno.

I cumuli sono nubi a sviluppo verticale,  hanno l’aspetto di maestose torri di ovatta e si formano a causa delle correnti ascensionali,  in cui l’aria calda viene portata ad enormi altezze.  Si incontrano dai 2000 mt di altitudine;  il loro aspetto e’ grigio alla base e bianco splendente alla sommita’.  Sono costituiti da ghiaccio nella parte superiore e di finissime goccioline d’acqua in quella inferiore.  Non necessariamente portano pioggia.

I cumuli nelle foto li ho incontrati in atterraggio a Verona in un bel giorno d’Aprile.

 

Cumulus clouds.      

This post is dedicated to the sky watchers,  to the people who share interest for meteorological observations,  to many former colleagues of mine who like,  as I do,  to be informed about meteo phenomena,  to the airline personnel that I have met,  who manage the skyways daily.

Cumulus clouds are big clouds made of ice in their top part and fine water drops in the lower.  Their aspect is quite fluffy:  their colour is grey at their base and bright white at their top.  They have a flat base with a growing vertical structure,  similar to a tower – they stand at 2000 metres altitude.  Cumulus clouds develop as a result of convection:  warm air is lifted to very high altitude and condenses.  They do not always bring rain.

I shot the clouds in this post during a landing onto Verona on a fine day in April.
