Forse a qualcuno non sembrerà possibile,  ma è proprio vero:  anche in Finlandia,  come in tutta la Scandinavia,  si coltivano le fragole!  Le piantine,  da brave e coraggiose,  sopravvivono durante il lungo inverno riposando sotto la neve e a maggio come per magia fioriscono.  Il gioco è fatto:  dopo un mesetto si possono assaggiare i primi frutti – per chi le coltiva in serra o in luoghi particolarmente esposti al sole anche prima.  Vi dirò di piu’:  le fragole scandinave sono generalmente piu’ piccole e dolci di quelle che troviamo spesso da noi,  anche perche’ crescono con la luce anche di notte.  Non hanno bisogno di particolari cure,  a parte un po’ di concimazione e innaffiature.  Unica avvertenza:  meglio coprirle con una rete,  altrimenti i merli e parte della popolazione di volatili le assaggeranno prima di voi!

Strawberry fields forever.        Someone may think it is not true,  but…yes,  even in Finland,  as well as in all Scandinavia,  it is possible to grow strawberries!  They do not need much care:  some fertilizer and water;  they will survive very well under the snow in the long winter and in May they will bloom.  After a month you will be able to taste the delicious fruits – if you grow them in a greenhouse,  even earlier.  Generally speaking,  Scandinavian strawberries are smaller in size and juicier than in southern Europe,  also because they have been growing in the light for 24 hours a day.  Only one precaution is necessary:  to cover them with a net,  otherwise some birds and blackbirds in particular will taste them before youself!

  3. Yummy! 🙂 My parents, like I as well, live in Northern Ostrobothinia and they have their own strawberry field. So it is possibly to grow those up here, too, not only in southern parts of Finland.

  25. Infatti le fragole provengono da fattorie delle vicinanze (salvo diversa indicazione), persino nei mercati del centro di Helsinki, naturalmente. Grazie della visita! Faccio un giro sul tuo blog.
