Tra Italia e Finlandia

Quest’anno ho trascorso un 2 giugno (che in Italia e’ la Festa della Repubblica) proprio diverso dal solito.  Insieme al caro amico Andreas siamo stati a Mantova ad ascoltare un concerto di una ensemble finlandese di musica da camera:  i Kuhmon Kamarimusiikki,  di cui vi avevo parlato nel post Eventi.

Il concerto,  come molti altri in programma,  si svolgeva nell’ambito del Mantova Chamber Music Festival,  giunto alla sua sesta edizione.  Mantova e’ una citta’ dalle dimensioni ridotte,  ma e’ molto viva culturalmente:  i festival a tema sono parecchi e sempre frequentatissimi.  L’atmosfera e’ vivace ed e’ bello incontrare gli artisti,  protagonisti dei vari eventi,  per le stade della citta’!

Ed eccoci arrivati al luogo dell’esibizione:  il piccolo ma graziosissimo teatro Bibiena,  annesso al Conservatorio di musica.  Il teatro,  costruito su progetto del parmense Antonio Galli Bibiena fra il 1767 e il 1769,  era destinato a manifestazioni musicali ma anche a dimostrazioni scientifiche;  presenta una rara pianta a campana con quattro ordini di palchi lignei,  i cui interni sono tutti affrescati con paesaggi monocromatici di gusto arcadico.  Qualche mese dopo la sua inaugurazione,  il teatro ospitava un concerto del quattordicenne W. Amadeus Mozart.

Questa ensemble di musicisti e’ una rappresentanza del Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival,  un festival di musica da camera che si svolge tutti gli anni a luglio per due settimane nella cittadina di Kuhmo,  nella Finlandia centrale,  di cui il maestro Vladimir Mendelssohn,  il suonatore di viola con la barba nelle foto,  e’ il direttore artistico dal 2005.  Questo festival e’ il piu’ grande del genere musica da camera in Finlandia,  si tiene da 49 anni,  ospita artisti da tutto il mondo e attrae ogni anno oltre 6000 visitatori;  oltre ai concerti ci sono corsi di musica e workshops. 

I musicisti ringraziano il pubblico che ha gradito la loro intensa e partecipata esecuzione.  Anche a me e’ piciuto:  ascolto volentieri musica classica,  i miei genitori mi ci hanno abituata e poi…sono cresciuta in una delle capitali dell’Opera!

On June, 2nd.    

On June 2nd in Italy we celebrate Republic Day,  that is when in 1946 people voted to become a republic and drop the monarchy as form of government.  This year I spent the day in a very unusual way:  I went with our dear friend Andreas to Mantua to listen to a chamber music concert.  The concert was part of the 6th edition of the Mantova Chamber Music Festival.  (I have told you about it in my previous post:  Eventi.)  Mantua is quite a small city but culturally lively:  many different thematic festivals take place every year and the atmosphere is so positive…you can actually meet your favourite writer or musician in the streets.

The place of the concert was the small but very elegant Teatro Bibiena,  located in the city centre,  close to the Music Academy.  This theatre,  inaugurated in 1769,  was designated by architect Antonio Galli Bibiena and was meant to be not only the stage for music or shows,  but also for scientific presentations.  The theatre diagram is rarely bell-shaped;  it has four levels of wooden  boxes,  all of them frescoed with monochrome arcadian sceneries.  A curiosity about this theatre:  in January 1770 the young W. Amadeus Mozart performed here,  he was 14 years old.

The theatre ceiling has a peculiar geometrical composition too.

This ensemble of musicians comes from the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival,  held every July in the town of Kuhmo,  in central Finland.  The senior member is maestro Vladimir Mendelsson,  Artistic Director of the festival since 2005.  The festival is the biggest in Finland for chamber music and quite successful:  every year more than 6000 visitors.  After concerts,  the festival offers music courses and workshops.

The musicians played intensely and the audience liked their performance.  I liked it too;  I learnt from my parents to appreciate classical music and after all…I have grown up in a town famous for its Opera festivals!
