Tra Italia e Finlandia

Il Primo Maggio,  detto Vappu,  in Finlandia e’ una vera festa di colori:  una specie di festival di primavera,  con tanto di prime grigliate e bevute… Ha luogo anche una specie di “Festa delle matricole” a Helsinki,  ma di questa parleremo un’altra volta.  Oggi vi parlo del Primo Maggio dei bimbi:  ogniuno di loro ha diritto ad un palloncino!  E’ una vecchissima tradizione e se un tempo i palloncini erano semplicemente quelli di gomma da gonfiare a bocca,  come nella foto sopra,  oggi sul mercato se ne trovano dei piu’ vari…come vedete nelle foto sotto.  Cosi’ mentre i grandi festeggiano,  i piu’ piccoli giocano…anche coi palloncini.  Spero che tutti abbiate trascorso un felice Vappu!

Riconoscerete il tram dei Barbapapa’,  l’immancabile Unicorno,  Peppa Pig e il must di stagione:  il Fenicottero rosa.  Per i piu’ romantici anche un bel cuore rosso!

Chiaramente il Primo Maggio e’ e rimane la Festa del Lavoro:  ovunque ci sono manifestazioni e comizi,  programmi radio e tv;  ma anche in Finlandia come in Italia questo aspetto serio va a braccetto con i festeggiamenti.  La notte del Primo Maggio “riposano” anche i poligrafici:  il giorno 2 Maggio i giornali escono solo online,  non c’e’ il cartaceo.

May Day colours.    In Finland May Day,  called Vappu,  is a colorful celebration:  a kind of Spring Festival,  when people open the grilling season and usually drink freely too…  In Helsinki,  a University students’ feast takes place,  but I will keep that tale for next year!  Today I will share with you a joyful series of balloons,  as it is the children’s way to celebrate:  they will have their own balloon to play with.  It is a very old tradition;  when my husband was a little boy,  of course there were only the simplest ones made of rubber and inflatable by yourself by your own mouth;  nowadays in the market you can find whatever…for the joy of the little ones. I hope you all have spent a nice Vappu!

You will recognize Peppa Pig,  the Barbapapa’ family,  Super Mario,  the Unicorn…and the must-have of the season:  the pink Flamingo!  For the romantic ones,  a lovely red heart.

Of course May Day is Labour Day also in Finland,  therefore debates and events are held throughout the country,  including on tv and radio;  although this serious aspect certainly goes together with feasts and partying,  as it happens in Italy.   On May 2nd only online editions of newspapers are available:  no paper issues.
