Gli Amorini di Palazzo Forti.

Nel centro storico di Verona,  (che è patrimonio dell’Umanita’ tutelato dall’Unesco),  in via Achille Forti,  si trova Palazzo Forti,  la residenza di questo scienziato botanico veronese che nel 1937,  alla sua morte,  ne fece dono alla citta’.  Come da sue precise volonta’ testamentarie,  questo bel palazzo nobiliare e’ stato adibito a spazio espositivo ed e’ tuttora il Museo di Arte Moderna di Verona (AMO).  Il primo nucleo di Palazzo Forti risale al secolo XIII e nella sua storia ebbe varie vicende;  in particolare durante la II guerra mondiale subi’ un vistoso degrado,  ma in seguito a un lungo periodo di restauro fu riaperto negli anni ’80 con la destinazione attuale.  In questo post voglio proporvi una delle sale,  adornata da stupendi affreschi di ammiccanti amorini.

In Italia,  perlomeno qui al nord,  in molti luoghi si trovano targhe che attestano il passaggio di Napoleone;  a Verona e provincia il condottiero francese soggiorno’ in varie localita’,  incluso Palazzo Forti.

Cupids at Palazzo Forti.       Palazzo Forti is a remarkable premise in old town Verona,    nowadays the Modern Art Museum (AMO).  Its latest owner,  Achille Forti,  was a botanical scientist,  from a local noble family,  who donated his property to the municipality in 1937 establishing that it should become a museum.  The oldest parts of the building date back to the Medieval times;  through the centuries it has changed many owners and has been adapted to different purposes.  During World War II it was seriously damaged,  but after a long-time refurbishing,  it was opened to the public in the 1980’s.  Today Palazzo Forti is used for art exhibitions but it is a beautiful art work in itself.  In this post I will share with you the cupids painted on the ceiling of one of the halls:  saucy and amiable.

All the building is decorated with frescoes,  stucco and gold coated works;  in many halls the ceilings have eye-catching barrel vaults.  In the last photos you can see the main entrance and the stylish facade.  The plaque in the very last photo says that Napoleon stayed in this building too.  In the north of Italy you will see memories of Napoleon’s passage in many places.  In order to encourage you all to visit,  I remind you that Verona’s old town is part of  Unesco Human Heritage sites.
