La Ghiandaia (Garrulus glandarius), Närhi in finnico, e’ un volatile che risiede stabilmente nei boschi della Finlandia, anche in inverno. E’ molto timida e paurosa e, pur essendo di taglia piu’ grande del merlo, si avvicina di rado e con molta circospezione alle case di noi umani. (Vien persino da chiedersi a che cosa le servira’ quel suo bellissimo piumaggio colorato, se sta sempre nel folto dei boschi? …Ma tant’è!)
Questa nelle foto, particolarmente coraggiosa, pur di assaggiare il delizioso grasso delle nostre palle, si e’ appesa con tutto il suo corpaccione alle strutture destinate agli uccellini piccoli: la fame ha avuto il sopravvento.
Parafrasando indegnamente Dante e il suo conte Ugolino, direi: “Piu’ che ‘l timor pote’ ‘l digiuno”.

Fearless Jay.
The Jay is a beautiful, colourful bird that lives permanently in the forests of Finland. (At last we meet someone who does not migrate!) Even though it is bigger than a blackbird, it is a very shy animal and visits human gardens seldom and in all carefulness. (Actually, I even wonder sometimes: why those lively feathers if it stays mostly in the deep forest? Nature is amazing…)
The Jay in the photos was instead quite fearless: it wanted to taste our fat balls and grabbed on with its big body to a metal structure made for very small birds. The food was too good to resist…
Allow me to paraphrase Dante in the Divine Comedy upon his meeting with Count Ugolino: “Piu’ che ‘l timor pote’ ‘l digiuno” that is: “Hunger was stronger than fear”.

Cosa sono di preciso quelle palle? Comunque la ghiandaia è meravigliosa, è il mio sogno vederne una! Una mia amica me ne ha mandata una foto da casa sua in Abruzzo, però non mi intendo affatto di uccelli europei quindi non so se fosse un altro tipo/varietà o cosa, mi sembra che parlasse anche lei di ghiandaia. Sono creature stupende.

Quelle sono palle di grasso, proprio per I volatili. Di ghiandaie ce ne sono di alcuni tipi: quella marina, ad esempio, e’ blu. Quella mi manca (per adesso! 😉 ) Grazie Lucy!
