Oggi e’ il 21 dicembre,  giorno del solstizio d’inverno,  cioe’ giorno piu’ corto dell’anno,  almeno nell’emisfero nord.  In Finlandia le ore di luce oggi sono state poche:  il sole infatti a Helsinki e’ sorto alle 09.24 ed e’ tramontato alle 15.13.  Noi ci troviamo poco piu’ a nord di Helsinki,  quindi abbiamo avuto 5 ore di luce.

Nelle mie foto sopra:  la situazione alle ore 12.00 esatte del 21.12.2012.  Ci trovavamo lungo la strada Forssa-Humppila,  quindi molto vicino a Somero.  Va detto,  comunque,  che le albe e i crepuscoli durano molto piu’ che in Italia:  dal momento in cui il sole sorge al momento in cui il cielo e’ completamente chiaro passa circa un’ora.  Lo stesso succede al tramonto.

Certamente piu’ si sale verso nord,  meno ore di luce ci sono.  Ad esempio a Rovaniemi,  citta’ capoluogo della Lapponia,  situata praticamente sul Circolo Polare Artico e residenza di Babbo Natale,  oggi il sole e’ sorto alle 11.02 ed e’ tramontato alle 13.28.  Hanno avuto ben due lunghe ore di luce anche la’!

Winter Solstice.    

Today it is the Winter Solstice,  the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere.  In Finland,  daytime was very short today:  the sun rose in Helsinki at 09.24 a.m. and set at 03.13 p.m..  We live slightly norther and have had today about 5 hours of light.

In my first two photos above:  how the sky looked like on December 21st,  2012,  at noon along the  Forssa-Humppila road,  quite close to Somero.  You must consider,  anyway,  that sunrises and sunsets happen very slowly:  from the moment the sun appears to the moment it is full daytime,  there goes almost one hour.  The same happens in the afternoon.

The norther you go,  of course,  the shorter the day is:  for instance in Rovaniemi,  the capital town of Lapland and Santa’s hometown,  situated almost on the Arctic Circle today the sun rose at 11.02 a.m. and set at 01.28 p.m.  They could enjoy two long,  bright daytime hours!

In my last photos:  the pinkish sunset on Christmas day,  2006;  whenever the sky is clear we can enjoy early but picturesque sunsets!

  1. Bellissime le foto. Complimenti Luisella sei una brava fotografa. Non sono mai stata in Finlandia ma con queste immagini mi sembra di essere là in mezzo a questo spettacolare paesaggio. Ti auguro un sereno Natale anche a tuo marito. Un abbraccio Fiorella
