Tra Italia e Finlandia

Praticamente in tutti i cimiteri della Finlandia una parte e’ dedicata ai caduti in guerra.  Nelle foto il cimitero di Somero con il memoriale dove sono sepolti i concittadini caduti nella Guerra d’Inverno.  In quest’anno molto particolare in cui si festeggiano i 100 anni d’indipendenza,  tutti gli addobbi floreali sono stati realizzati in bianco e azzurro:  i colori nazionali.  La manutenzione dei cimiteri e’ affidata alla Chiesa,  nella fattispecie alla parrocchia (Seurakunta),  che provvede anche ai fiori tutti rigorosamente uguali in questa parte di memoriale,  mentre nella parte di camposanto dove riposano i privati cittadini,  solitamente i familiari portano fiori,  ceri o candele.

I finlandesi che sono membri della Chiesa (ricordiamo:  di religione Luterana),  pagano una tassa equivalente circa all’1,65 per cento dello stipendio lordo mensile a questa istituzione per avvalersi dei servizi forniti:  Sacramenti,  formazione catechistica,  sepoltura in terra consacrata.  Con i proventi di questa tassa la Chiesa copre tutte le proprie spese:  dalla manutenzione degli edifici religiosi agli stipendi del personale. (Ovviamente anche qui chiunque puo’ fare donazioni o lasciti).

Altri fiori blu,  di cui non so il nome,  ma molto d’effetto contro il bianco delle croci.

Finnish War Memorials.    

In Finland,  war memorials are usually part of town cemeteries;  in my photos:  the Winter War Memorial in Somero,  where the natives are buried.  This year,  the decorations on every tomb have been made in the national colours,  using white and blue flowers,  to honour the special celebration of 100 years’ independence.  I do not know the name of these beautiful blue flowers,  but they stand out very well against the white crosses.

Maintenance of cemeteries is made by the Church,  in particular by the local Parish;  in the part of cemetery dedicated to those fallen in battle,  the parish will provide uniform gravestones and decorations,  whereas in the part where private citizens are resting,  it is usually their own families who carry flowers or candles.

In Finland,  people who are members of the Church (Lutheran)  pay a tax to enjoy the Church’s services,  such as:  administration of Sacraments,  catechism and burial in cemeteries.  The tax is about 1.65 percent of one’s monthly gross income. This tax covers also the maintenance of Church buildings as well as personnel’s wages.  (It is of course always possible to donate to the Church or leave a legacy in a will).

In the last photo:  the war memorial of the small town of Renko,  photographed last summer;  there are gravestones instead of crosses,  but again blue and white flowers.
