…Piu’ acquatici di cosi’!…

Post dedicato al Ferragosto incombente. Per gli italiani l’alta stagione delle vacanze e’ il mese di agosto, specialmente la settimana che comprende il giorno 15. Questa usanza risale all’imperatore romano Augusto, che decreto’ le Feriae Augustae, una festivita’ destinata a celebrare la fine dei lavori agricoli piu’ pesanti.

Per i finlandesi il mese di picco per le vacanze e’ luglio; quando statisticamente e’ possibile trovare il clima migliore, le temperature piu’ alte e quando le giornate sono lunghissime. Agosto invece e’ il mese dei raccolti e proprio il giorno 15 spesso coincide con l’inizio delle scuole.

This post is intended to introduce the approaching “Ferragosto”, the festive day on August 15th, introduced by the roman emperor Augustus and called Feriae Augustae. In those times the festivity celebrated the end of the heaviest agricultural labours, nowadays it is a break along the summer season. Ever since, for Italian people the peak season of holidays is the month of August, particularly the week including 15th.

For Finnish people the traditional holiday month is July, when it is possible to have the warmest weather, when nature is at its best and days are the longest. August is the harvest month and schools often start just on the 15th.
