Tra Italia e Finlandia

Non so quante specie di Aironi vi siano in natura,  ma so che io,  frequentando le risaie e i territori umidi del Veronese,  ne ho fotografate tre ben riconoscibili.  Tutte e tre si sono acclimatate molto bene nell’Italia settentrionale a causa anche dell’innalzamento delle temperature dovuto ai cambiamenti climatici in atto.  L’airone infatti e’ un volatile tipico delle zone calde del mondo e la sua presenza nel Veronese e’ iniziata dal 1990.

L’Airone bianco maggiore  (Ardea alba),  il piu’ grande di tutti,  dal candido piumaggio. (Ardea alba).  Frequenta le risaie perche’ si nutre di pesciolini,  anfibi e altri invertebrati acquatici.

L’Airone cenerino (Ardea cinerea),  dall’elegante piumaggio grigio cenere.  Forse il piu’ comune e il piu’ conosciuto dei tre.  E’ anche il migratore che arriva piu’ lontano:  l’ho avvistato io stessa anche a Somero.  Gli altri due tipi non si spingono cosi’ a nord.

L’Airone rosso (Ardea purpurea),  dal raffinatissimo piumaggio color castano-rossiccio.  Questo airone e’ una specie protetta ed e’ piuttosto raro da vedere.  La povera bestia ha sofferto secoli di abbattimenti finalizzati solo a procurarsi le sue bellissime piume!

Herons.  

I am not sure to know how many species of Herons exist in the Nature,  but surely I have photographed three of them in the rice fields around Verona,  where I frequently go biking. Herons usually live in the warmest areas of our planet,  but since the 1990’s they have started setting down in the north of Italy as well,  due to climate changes.

The first type is the Great egret  (Ardea alba),  who lives in water as its food are small fish and other water creatures.  It is the biggest type of heron,  with white fine feathers.

The second type is the Grey heron (Ardea cinerea),  with smart grey feathers.  It is also the only migrating heron who flies to the north of Europe:  I have seen it in Somero myself.

The third type is the magnificent Purple heron (Ardea purpurea),  with fine reddish-brown feathers.  This is the rarest type and strictly protected:  through the history it has suffered mass-killing  just for its feathers!
