Ottobre è il momento clou del foliage,  o Ruska, in quanto  all’inizio di questo mese arrivano le prime gelate notturne e sono proprio quelle che fanno arrossire o,  come dice Mauro Corona,  arrugginire,  la vegetazione.

“Vuodet  eivät  ole veljiä”, cioè: “Gli anni non sono fratelli”,  dicono i Finnici, per dire che ogni anno e ogni stagione è a se’.  Per dire che potrebbe anche nevicare ad ottobre e potrebbe andare anche a -15,  come mi ricordo io stessa nel 2002.  Sono ondate di freddo che vanno e vengono;  solitamente ottobre è ancora mite: di notte qualche gelata, ma di giorno 10 gradi.

Tutto questo rende il paesaggio una godibilissima tavolozza di colori!ot12

Red October. 

When October starts,  the foliage starts – in Finnish the word is:  Ruska.  Autumn makes the vegetation turn yellow and the first frosty nights add red,  brown and the landscape is a varied colourful palette.  “Years are not brothers”,   “Vuodet  eivät  ole veljiä” say the Finns,  to mean that seasons are not repetitive and long-distance weather is unpredictable.  Statistically,  October brings cold nights and still agreeable days,  but if cold air blows from north it can snow and be as cold as -15 C,  as I remember in 2002.
